I think your friend is telling you stories. Quail do not consistently 2 eggs a day and 3 if even possible would be extremely rare. Chances are your friend isn't collecting the eggs daily.
Yes, the females should have the markings on their chest where the males are usually a mostly solid color. If you watch YouTube, I recommend taking a look at some of My shire farms videos, he does a VERY good job of showing the differences.
I started out with a Farm Innovator incubator and bought an egg turner for it on Amazon and it did pretty good atleast 50% hatch rate on shipped eggs. I now have a Brinsea Ovation 56EX and this thing is incredible. It comes with an automatic egg turner and even has a system to keep the humidity...
Are you going by the readings for temp. and humidity on the incubator or did you place a hygrometer in the incubator? ALL incubators lie. I have to set my incubators to 100.1 or .2 to get it actual temp to 99.5. I usually have my temp set at 99.5 to 99.7 and during incubation I keep humidity at...
With my birds, I wait until they are 4 weeks old and I place them in their cages before using the feeder ports on them. I've attached a picture of the only feeder I will use in my brooders. Any younger than that and they won't be able to get to the food and any larger birds will block them. I...
Has anyone tried using these feed ports with their Quail? They require a 3.15" hole and I'm worried that they will be too big and can't find a 2" version anywhere.
Awesome. I can hardly wait until they start hatching, I plan to get some videos of them hatching and then after I place them in the brooder. LOL, I still get just as excited as I did when we first got into Quail when they start hatching.
I just placed 119 Falb Fee Quail eggs into lock-down. I can hardly wait to see how many of them hatch and what they look like. We are hoping for really good results. This will be our largest hatch to date and this time they are in our new Brinsea Ovation 56EX incubator. These are shipped eggs...
Those are some beautiful birds. I can hardly wait to see what ours look like. I have 120 Falb Fee eggs in the incubator right now and just like when we first got started with Quail, I still get excited and hate the 2 week wait.
I have that happen frequently when my birds first start laying. When they first start laying eggs I switch them to a layer feed that has lower protein and higher calcium. Usually withing a few weeks, the eggs are normal like the rest of the eggs, sometimes it can take them a little longer. They...
If the 3 pics load correctly, 01 is the starter feed I WAS giving them and 02 is the Layer feed. 03 is the new Layer feed that the grain elevator makes and is the only tag I get with the feed. The starter feed has no tag with it. I just emailed Purina to see if they can tell me what is wrong...
I have a very brief analysis sheet for the layer feed but nothing on the starter feed. I've decided to go back to what I was feeding them before and will have a talk with the people at the Grain elevator. The mix that I get from them is called Check-R-Lay and Check-R-Mix L.C. by Ralston Purina.
LOL, that's not abuse. Everytime I enter my Quail room, my birds start chattering and I have a few that have started making a loud sounds like crickets. I think they are happy to see me and are letting me know. I love to listed to them chattering and singing.
