An hour ago I decided to change my almost 2 week old chicks’ brooder bedding from paper towel to aspen shavings. I put a half inch layer down and put the chicks in. They started to peck at the shavings which are too big for them to eat. After 10 minutes they all lined up in a circle and started...
I have a few 1 weel and a half old quail chicks. Two are tibetan, two silver and the rest are some sort of brown kind. Three of the 'some sort of brown kind' are developing these dark patches at the base of their beaks. I only noticed it two days ago. They seem to be healthy.

Sorry for your loss, it must have been devastating :(
So I finished...
As soon as i moistened the membrane i knew the chick was long gone. It was stiff and dry.

My incubator is starting to smell horrible, i'm not sure if its because the chick is dead or because one of the other unpipped eggs is rotten.
I have a feeling the chick already passed away though. I am going to take it out and peel the...
Its been 23 hours... So far no movements or progress whatsoever. I'm losing hope. I think i'm going to open the lid to float test the other unpipped eggs.

Thanks for the reply,
I have read about the risks of assisting in hatching. Is it true that there is little to no chance of the chick hatching 24 hours after the first pip? I was wondering if it was normal for an egg not to be in action for a few hours after some pips. Its quite obvious but...
I am hatching a small batch of 11 quail eggs. Today is day 16 and four of them hatched. They were fine in the incubator, pushing around other pipped eggs until one got stuck (its quite complicated). I quickly openned the incubator and got the hatched chicks out safely (yay) and closed it in no...
