Hey, thanks for taking the time to respond. I actually just found out that if I put my duck eggs pointy-end-down in the cartons they fit alot better-- mabye I won't need to buy bigger cartons at all!
Thanks anyway though, I appreciate it!
Hi. Does anyone have recommendations for where to purchase duck egg cartons that are actually big enough for duck eggs? The ones we bought fit our smallest eggs, but not eggs from our pekins. Suggestions? Thanks!
HollowOfWisps, MGG, sourland, thanks for your quick replys!
I had a look at his wing this morning and, no he is not currently molting his wing feathers; they are clear, and not growing.
I'm still thinking the wing might be broken, so if anyone has advice on taping it I would appreciate it!
sourland, thanks for your response. Yes, he is molting out of his juvenile plumage into his adult plumage, though I'm not sure if he is molting his wing feathers at this stage.
However, I think that if that was the cause, both wings might be drooping. Also, the one wing seemed as though it was...
I have an immature duck drake which I suspect might have a broken wing. One of his wings has been drooping for a few days now, and he has been hitching it up constently. I have had a close-up look at it but can't find a break. However the wing is limp from about the alula to the tip... in other...
Does anyone have a recipe for a simple home-made duck feed? It has to meet the proper nutritional requirements for a mixed flock of drakes, laying hens and one goose. The ducks do forage, but they don't have a pond, so they will rely largely on this feed. Any recipes or ideas are appreciated...
Thanks to everyone who responded. Unfortunately our beloved hen died last night. We are heartbroken. This has been a very important learning opportunity for us; thanks to your help, we now know what things to have on hand (calcium gluconate) and how to treat our hens if it ever happens again. We...
My Khaki Campbell hen started acting very strange today. I found her this afternoon, huddled in one corner of the coop, apparently straining. I assumed she was egg bound, and soaked her bottom in warm water for about 10 minutes. I read you should give an egg bound hen calcium supplement, but I...
My 5 week old Toulouse Gosling has been having trouble walking on her left leg for about 2 weeks and it hasn't gotten any better. When she walks, her left leg is turned inward and her hip sticks out slightly. I've examined her leg but haven't been able to find anything out of the ordinary. She...
Thank you so much for taking the time to write all this out for me. I am absolutely going to try it! I just bought a grain mill, so I bet in addition to the grains that I am going to try to grow, I could probably purchase bulk grains and grind them course and then ferment them...
Thanks again...
That is a beautiful loaf! We just bought a grain mill and I baked my first loaf with freshly ground hard winter wheat yesterday. I bake all of our own breads and have just recently started using the sourdough starter for all my loaves too. Sourdough starter + freshly ground grain is a great thing!
Yes, I bought some seed for corn, will be growing that and buckwheat along w plenty of herbs, peas and lots of other good things for poultry and humans! I also have an active sourdough starter, so I’m ready to go on that part!
Thank you so much for the reply! Unfortunately I only have about 3 acres, but I will grow what I can. The sourdough culture sounds really interesting, can you explain how you did that?
Hi. I have been raising a half dozen ducks for a full year now. I feed them part commercial feed and part free range. I would love to get off the purchased feed all together but I live in New England and during the winter they obviously are limited in what they can find free ranging. So I need...
