I don’t know if I’m looking too much into this, but is this perhaps early stages of scaly leg mites? They are only on 2 of my 4YO Plymouth Rocks. Is something else maybe wrong with their feet/legs or am I just overthinking?
Also not sure if this is dry comb due to the cold weather here or...
Hi @casportpony, I know this is an old thread and an old post, but I would be thrilled if you would teach me how to do this. I have an almost 4YO broad rock hen that is having some serious crop issues 😔.
I don’t know if my girl is dehydrated because her poops are extremely watery, were yours...
Thank you for this! I’m going through this right now. My 6-7 month old Houdan is acting egg bound, but is still pooping. I’m afraid to check her vent with my finger as I don’t want anything to get pushed further inside and if she’s pooping I highly doubt I’d feel anything anyway. My fiancé did...
Excellent! The Valbazen works the same way (it is not water soluble), but it’s a liquid you have to give them using a syringe. Even so, I would think the Safeguard paste will still be easier to administer like you said. You shouldn’t need the Baytril for worms, but not a bad idea to order it now...
I need a little advice. I have a 3&1/2 YO Plymouth Rock hen, Winnifred, that is going through a HARD molt right now. I noticed her legs and feet looked much paler than those of her sisters and I believe her feet look a little swollen. I have never seen bumblefoot in person before, but it doesn't...
@Bigfishbobby I am by no means a vet, but here is my 2 cents and I truly hope it helps you.
Green diarrhea indicates that your chicken isn't eating nearly as much as it should. I have also read that bright green diarrhea could be a sign of coccidia. Because of the "rice like" bits you're seeing...
She is. Lethargic, dull, diarrhea, she did have doughy crop at first, but eating or drinking as much. However she seems to be doing a little better. Still lethargic and dull, but she has been eating and drinking. I got her chick starter feed and hydro-hen the other day and she’s loving that. I...
Thank you SO much for your input. Luckily I was able to order some Baytril a moment ago. Shipping says 2 business days. I hope it's not too late for my Blanche. Would you happen to know when I should start seeing improvements if there are any to be made? I want to try and save her if I can...
@GRB73
Hi, I know this was a while ago, but did you ever get an answer to what was going on with your Wyandotte? I have a 3.5yo Plymouth Rock going through the same thing right now. There were 2 other masses that looked like this (a little bigger though, maybe the size of a pea) one about 3...
@EggSighted4Life I cut it open last night and it looks like just a solid mass. I’m not sure if that means anything. It was pretty hardened, but it was also wrapped in a puppy pad for like 24 hours.
On the bright side of things, Blanche has perked up quite a bit! She is eating normally. Last...
I do have the calcium citrate at home. I will start that tonight.
We throw out the oyster shells every once in a while. I just got a small chick feeder actually and put that out there for them, but they knocked it over and it went everywhere. I have to find a way to secure it somehow so they...
I have not… I rolled up the puppy pad and threw it in the trash bag I have near her crate, but I will dig it out and cut it open if I have to later this afternoon/evening when I get home from work! In the meantime, thank you for the articles. I’ll take a look at them.
For size reference, it’s about the size of my pinky fingernail.
My 3&1/2 YO broad rock hen, Blanche, is having some issues. She had been having some bad diarrhea and was lacking luster. I separated her and determined she had an impacted (doesn’t appear to be sour) crop. I believe the blockage...
I’m so sorry this happened! I had a rooster who had his 3rd eyelid (I think that’s what it’s called) pecked really badly by one of the other hens and it got infected. I tried the at home and otc remedies but it was only getting worse. Eventually I had to take him to the vet and got this liquid...
Okay, now I’m kind of at a loss here. I hope someone can help me out. Blanche seems to be improving, I believe whatever crop blockage she had has passed. She is pooping more normally and seems more energetic. She did have a couple poops with a lot of tiny pieces of gravel in it (from our...
Unfortunately my vet doesn’t do fecal floats on chickens 😕. I thought about getting my own microscope before but I don’t know, I’m afraid of misdiagnosing things.
This morning she still has that goofball sized lump. I kind of got pictures. Her poop hasn’t changed and she’s still meek. I am...
Yes, this morning was when it felt almost exactly like a golf ball. I would like to have her stool sample sent out before I treat her for worms again simply because I need to know the root of the issue, especially because this is the second time with her and also to know if I need to treat the...
I don’t think so but it’s hard to tell when she’s in the general population. She has not laid any inside this time or last time. I think it’s an impacted crop. It should be empty, but it feels like a golf ball. I’ve never dealt with it before so I’m going to look it up right now, but from my...
