Hi,
I have a 12 month old copper Maran rooster who has started to be pecked at by the hens. He seems submissive, and they are pecking at his neck and comb, he is squatting and allowing them to do this.
Any ideas on why this is happening? He is still crowing and mating with the hens.
Thanks for...
Thanks for advice. He’s in a crate in our bathroom, so we will keep him here until he’s healed up enough to keep the flies off. We have him on antibiotic creams and antiseptic sprays. I’ve given him some tramadol for the pain.
I thought he might be fretting for his ladies. One of the girls got...
Hi All,
One of my poor drakes was attacked by a goanna (very large lizard- 6 foot) yesterday. I have taken him to the vet and we have isolated him inside and are applying ointment and antibacterial spray, twice daily.
He was mainly injured under his wing. Couldn’t stitch as the wound are...
I have two roosters (I get confused when you call them “Roos” as I live in rural Australia and therefore roos are completely different animals). They have around 5 acres to free range, yet they hang out with each other a lot of the time. They have their occasional “handbaggers” (fighting like...
It’s midsummer here in Australia, it was usually cool until last week- 65F when it’s usually minimum 77F. Yesterday temperatures were back to normal for Christmas 89F. This came today. What is going on?
They are Chinese Browns. The breeder I got the eggs from said that she has two bloodlines- one is a lighter and one is darker- looks like I have one of both. They have lovely little personalities already.
Squeak, the smaller gosling wasn’t doing amazing for a week or two, but after a trip to the vet- needed antibiotics for a repiratory infection, but is now growing strong.
Hi,
I need some advice. I’m a novice to chickens and ducks.
One of my Muscovy ducks has decided to set on Pekin duck eggs, and I’m guessing a few of hers.
I know that Muscovy eggs take 35 days to hatch and Pekins 28. Is this going to be a problem? Will she abandon the Muscovy eggs once the...
I am attempting to incubate Cayuga eggs in a Janoel JN8-48 incubator.
I have read that duck eggs need to be at 65% humidity. I cannot figure out how to increase the humidity in the Janoel JN8-48 incubator. It is staying at 41% no matter how much water is in the tray.
Pleae help!
So I thought I would just catch the 4 weeks old keets and put them out into the chicken coop for the day. Apparently they have learned to fly, darn well! This is one sitting up on the rafter and laughing at me. FYI I eventually coaxed it down and it joined its confusion.
My 6 month old Guinea Fools (that’s not a typo), roost on top of my chicken coop. We actually had to train them not to sleep in the coop as they beat up the chickens and stole all their food. They are hilariously stupid, they run at my car when I arrive home to attack it, then run away when I...
