I’m studying graphic design and illustration and in one of my classes I had an assignment to make an infographic. I was happy with how it came out so I wanted to share it somewhere ☺️
I also agree with sourland, they might not start sharing duties for a bit. They are young though, and inexperienced, so there might be a few bumps in the road! Within a few days they should hopefully start taking shifts.
Sounds like you do have a male and female judging by behavior, if two females pair up you might end up with as many as four eggs in the nest so just the one makes me think you’ve got a male/female pair. Did you candle the egg to see if it’s fertile? Are they young birds, do you know if they have...
UPDATE: unfortunately while they were out free ranging today my little orange roo was killed by a hawk. I still have the black and white roo that needs a new home but the orange one is no longer available :(
My rule of thumb is usually if they can’t raise their own babies I don’t want anything to do with them because I agree with that video, it seems unethical to breed a bird that can’t function as a bird on its own.
Capuchines do just fine on their own, their mane of long neck feathers doesn’t...
They’re both around 5 – 5 1/2 months old (hatched late April, I don’t know the exact date). And to answer your question on the other thread, whereabouts are you? I’d go maybe an hour or so from Bay City (where I’m at).
Unfortunately two of my chicks this year ended up being roosters, and I can’t keep roosters where I live. They’re both super sweet, friendly boys. One is a black and white silkie and the other is some kind of mille-fleur silkie cross. Both are beautiful birds that I wish I could keep.
I would...
That’s not a stupid question! It’s a mixture to add to water to help with hydration, I used a store bought mix but I know there’s homemade recipes that include brown sugar and a couple other general household staples. you can look that up or I’m sure other people on this site have their own recipes!
No claw marks that I can see.
Location is not super close to water (2 miles or so from anything other than a tiny creek) and there are no drag marks from a tail or sliding. Bobcat could be a possibility because I’ve seen them in the area before. Strides were about a foot, maybe 1’ 1/2”.
Found these in northern lower Michigan, not directly related to chickens but I cannot think of any animal that would make tracks side by side like this at this size and I’m dying to know what it could have been! Size makes me think coyote but why would it be walking like this? Were there maybe...
Her crop feels normal, she’s definitely been eating and drinking okay as I can feel that in there but that’s it.
She’s with two other chicks I got from the same sale but from a different seller, they’re younger at around two weeks old. They’re all under a heat lamp in a tub with pine shavings...
I was at a bird sale yesterday and picked up a polish frizzle chick, what I estimate to be 4-5 weeks old. I didn’t see any sign of illness in her at the sale, but once I got home I realized she was breathing very heavily with her neck extended and mouth open. However, there is nothing blocking...
