    chickens and Coco Coir

I've actually gone out and gotten more. Have a hydroponics store and they had weenie bricks perfect for the babies that survived this years spring shipping disaster. You don't have to rehydrate to instructions. If you just do a 1/4 of the amount and rotate the block over the course of an...

    Stretches neck to breath

Thanks. I didn't realize there was something we could do with known Marecks. My original vaccinated birds have been fine, but every subsequent addition has taken heavy losses, even when vaccinated. This is definitely a newer presentation and perhaps after standing around in the snow too much...

    Bad eye bird

Kid has reported one of our fall pullets has a swollen eye. Have sent spouse out to bother the bird and get photo. Since they are late additions at the bottom of pecking order, she and her sister tend to wander around do their own thing. Not sure if there are any other symptoms yet. I'm...

    mystery babies at 10 weeks

So the 3 junior nuggets and their poor departed mom and their ankle biter dad from 50 or so weeks ago.

Given that of the 5 silkie day olds 2 of the 3 mottled had such bad crossbeak (once mama started field trips) that I sent them to a rescue, the last mottled being a boy is...eh. Just par for the season.

Both of them would be exciting. So that means the white one with the scraggly eyebrows is a boy? First and probably last go round with silkies. Mild mannered but rather dim! Their cochin mama much prefers them to the eggers.

    mystery babies at 10 weeks

We had a lot of denial last year when miss Apple Brown Betty started crowing, but Buster Brown was a good rooster who didn't mind sharing his hens and totally gave up his life to get the fox to drop the carcass of a top hen. So hoping another cochin boy does as well if the egger jerk remembers...

The other two are proper cochin so the weird tricolor in the middle must be a boy because he has wattles and the satin feather does not.

Another dirt pile ambush. Mystery cochin orpington bantam. Really hoping this is a pullet but am seeing some dominance games with the silkies.

If the back end takes after egger, then I would expect saddle feathers but it doesn't look like Orpington does as obvious tail.

And from the home hatch - bantam eggers. 3 that look more like their recently departed laying mom (but much less friendly) and one that looks more like the many many boys from the batch and is very shy. But not like keeper dad (current ankle pecking jerk) who went through lots of color change...

    mystery babies at 10 weeks

I bought a 6 pack of day olds to put under my broody bantam cochin on hatch day 2..and then actually hatched 4 total over 4 days. Then bought 3 more a month later from someone else. Which means I am at 10 weeks and looking at these 13 birds wondering how many of them are going to start...

    Air Quality impact?

As the AQI remains less than great (but not the very worst.) I really hope Mr Crows too much is just suffering from smog and not something infectious.
