Breed - Calico Princess or something else

hybrid breed that originated in the Czech Republic and is a cross between the Columbian Sussex and Barred Rhode Island Red breeds. Of course Hoover has mentioned by another could use they choice and hence you may get slightly different coloring but they are not yet fully adults and so expect...

Ok so I couldn't help MYSELF JUST HAD TO DO IT. I incubated and created 9 more chicks from my Rooster that I never wanted. Then I needed Easter Eggers, then the Sapphire looked so cute I couldn't just leave them there so now I'm 20 chickens deep. All have separate homes within their Chick town...

Can you hatch two different sets of eggs at different times in the same incubator?

I agreed with all started above. Things in moderation for monitoring is necessary. The rules are in place for greater rates of success. If you mark on a calendar when you started the incubation(set date) then 18 days after that date is the best time to move your eggs to another incubator prior...

Vote - to cull or not to cull

Dear dear Mamalana, I feel your pain. I'm going through it as well on a smaller scale. Brought 6 pullets. Or so I thought TSC, 2 were cockerals, which I really didn't want. Decided to give them a chance raised them like all other of my chicks from tractor supply. One cockerals pretty...

    Guessing just for fun

Here she is preening herself I know but I kept looking for signs...lol. I read people being able to tell from their wings or beak. This chick is either a mix of my legbar rooster with a ISA brown or one of my Smokey pearls. It has the down of what my smokey pearls looked like when they...

    Guessing just for fun

Good morning Farm family MrsFarmerJoe here. I know this chick is still to young to tell gender just yet(2 weeks). But I'm hoping she/he is a she. "She's" quite fun. Do any of you more experienced folks care to take a guess at what gender "she" maybe? Lol

    My first culling experience

Thank you. That was very helpful. He would fall in the Roaster age. I was told a Rooster is his eating at 5 months, but I was still hoping to find him a home. 3 persons fell through so here we are at 6 months.

    My first culling experience

Ok friends. This is MrsFarmerJoe here again. I've successfully culled my first chicken( for those of you who recall my slightly unrudely Rooster). It was a family affair, and a little tougher than I thought. I just well it was first. The actual kill ehh, the hand plucking surprisingly easier...

I've also never had a sick bird and they forage daily. I feed them all 22% feed from a mill out of Alabama and that feed is further enhanced with 6 way grains and the get fresh fruits and vegetables from my garden in the summer and I sprout for them in the winter months. I'm new but a caring...

Actually Kiki it is not. That is rich nice dark soil. I use it in garden when I clean it out. They scratch and take baths in there. I add shavings weekly and they keep it well turned. It is also a covered coop.

Thank you. I would keep him but he's been challenging me so he has to go. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. I know he's just doing his job but the one I'm planning to keep. Is so much more respectful to me and the girls. I hope he keeps his disposition after he becomes king of the pen.

Lol. Yes. I was hoping to figure out early on male or female. Because I currently have two legbar cockerals . I really don't want anymore. I've tried and tried to give away one of the cockerals but no body seems to want them. So I've been delaying the inevitable but hubby says one of them...

Thank you Kiki. This is temporary I just brought them in from the coop with the broody hen because out of the 3 2 of them one was injured somehow under a wing. And the other that was I and running around yesterday was lethargic and not moving. So something was happening in the coop. My husband...

Hello I'm MrsFarmerJoe here. I came into two legbar cockerals courtesy of TSC selling me what should have been 2 Legbar pullets. I've somehow managed to manage them for now. They mated with my ISA brown and or SmokeY pearl. I've no idea which egg came from whom but 3 hatched. One of my smokey...
