Just wanted to share...we were able to pull honey from one of our hives last weekend!!! We pulled almost 4 gallons and have it in jars. The last thing left for me to do is to melt and strain the beeswax.
I am not sure of the name, I lent mine out. I think it is called Beekeeping Basics by Kim Flottum. Books A Million carries it. Also, the Beekeeping for Dummies wasn't bad.
I have not done any of our beeswax yet, but I have been told the best method is the double boiler and then strained through cheesecloth to remove the impurities.
We have several hives. I wouldn't buy the Nuc or the other set up - if it were me. There are several bee places in Florida that sell exactly what you need and the bees to go with it. I, like Clay, think you would be better purchasing 2 deeps and shallows on top. I would also consider 8...
We will be there...not sure what I will have at the time, probably Barred Rocks, Buff Orps, Rhode Island Reds, some Silkies, OEGBs and maybe some turkey poults...
We will be there...I will be bringing Barred Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, Buff Orpingtons, Silkies and some OEGBs...all will be between the ages of 1 week to 5 weeks...with a little luck, I will be bringing some Bourbon Red turkey poults...see y'all there!
We keep Italiens and really enjoy them. We just split our one hive and now have 3!! We were actually able to get a frame of honey from it already and it was sooo good!!
WolfTracks ~ what are you doing awake at this hour?? LOL Thanks so much for the eggs!! I am sure we will enjoy watching them hatch, definitely need to separate them from the Barred Rocks.

Are you kidding me?
rebelINny also got 2 broken eggs!
This is the first time I've sent eggs that broke. I'm sooooo mad!
Anyway. The ones that have P/V are Prestley/Valentine lines and the ones with BD are Bev Davis.
Can you guess what they are?
OK so did you guess what they are...
I think Sugar Sand Farm is planning on attending. I am sure they will bring chickens as well as their fantastic line of t-shirts and the like with chickens on them!
