Chickens keep going into neighbor's yard

That is what we used also. Now when they wander over there we just shake the treat bag and they come running. Also they can learn boundaries by just showing them a broom at the boundary. It worked for us

    Broody hen killings babies

I'm so sorry this happened! Our golden laced Wyandotte was given fertilized eggs but they didn't hatch so we tried to give her day old chicks and she started pecking them in the head so we had to grab them fast. The chicks are 4 weeks now and she is getting used to them being around the yard and...

    And then there was one

Well, unfortunately things didn't go as planned. We tried all the advice we were given from the first night we got the chicks through night four. We rubbed her bedding and feathers on them, took an egg out and replaced it with a chick. She wasn't feeling it. Then on day 4 we lost a chick. Our...

    And then there was one

Thank you. The earliest I can seem to find them is 2 days old, which I think will be fine. The other day I was watching a video with a hen with chicks and the hen was making sounds and she actually came over and jumped on my lap, which she has never done before. She was looking everywhere for...

    And then there was one

Not yet. I was going to research it before I ordered the chicks. Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks

    And then there was one

We started off with 4 chickens and a mallard a year and a half ago and after a single coyote attack, (on our front porch with lights on right in front of us) we lost 2 chickens and the mallard. So it was just the 2 of them for almost a year and my Wyandotte was my great layer and my Barred Rock...

    Is My Hen Eating Eggs?

I wouldn't worry since I don't see any shell fragments. It was maybe a soft egg and she was curious. We actually dry out our shells. Take out the membrane and mix it in with their food for calcium and never had any egg eaters unless it was already broken or they stepped on it( which happens more...

    Yellow Egg White?

You will see some interesting things with their first six eggs. But it's all pretty normal. I'm impressed she laid the egg right there on the deck! Mine cluck and holler then we get an egg, but I have diva hens too, lol

Weird first egg at exactly 18 weeks

I have all hens and mine would never eat the oyster shell but when I mixed it in their food they did. I also supplemented with some probiotics when they 1st started laying and that seemed to get everything moving.

HELP ME DECIDE WHAT BREED TO GET!

The only breed I will ever get again because they are cold and heat tolerant. Super friendly, and both have gorgeous colors. 1st Plymouth Rock barred rock ( black and white). My buddy just passed away 3 weeks ago from a raccoon attack. (But we've had 6 over the years and they are the best!) I...

Comment by 'Charitylb1576' in article 'The Chookie McMansion'

This made me laugh! I got some great idea also to expand our sad coop and run. We have lost 3 chickens to predators this last year one in the run. So our run looks like a mosh posh of fencing, chicken wire, tarps and whatever else we cabin find to secure it from the local predators. But now...

Review by 'Charitylb1576' in article 'How To Tame Chickens from the Start'

Great article! We are a day away from getting a new batch of hatchling for our brooder and she is a Wyandotte that is super friendly. Getting Barred Rocks as I love how affectionate they are and keep us entertained. Just a shake of the worm bag and they come running. There favorite spot to...

Comment by 'Charitylb1576' in article 'Utilizing the Parrot Chop Principle to Improve Chicken Diets'

This is exactly what I do, but u never thought to ask at the farmers market for their old produce. We feed ours a lot of our leftover veggies from meals with their dry feed along with Red Meal and along with what ever protein I can find in the fridge. Thank you for the tip!

    Bumble or callus

Can I ask what kind of environmental changes did u make? Our girls including the chickens are the most spoiled girls this side of the Mississippi..(we live on one of it's tributaries). Especially when it comes to food!

    Bumble or callus

Thank u for the tip! I am always looking for tips! We had a pekin duck growing up named Beep, but he came to us with no feet as a rescue and my grandma made wood shoes for him and he lived a long healthy life thinking he was a dog! Lol I appreciate all the advice I can get!

    Bumble or callus

Thank u. That is what I think I'm going to do is just wait and watch it. I also put some old blankets down where they like to nap during the day behind an old door. Both the ducks and chickens like to snuggle back there and it cam get muddy back there. It's hard to get straw back there so I...

    Bumble or callus

So , I'm so confused now. Some of the posts said it's a say callus. Others said its not. When I touched it she didn't object. Also her sisters feet look a little different. We soaked her feet last night in Epson salt and warm water for about 15 minutes. That is all she would let us. Laid extra...

    Bumble or callus

Our 3 month old Peking duck has this on the bottom of both her feet. My daughter was hold her when I noticed it. They are really skittish even though we held them from 3 days on so holding them is a treat! But she is not limping or acting like she is in pain. She is eating and drinking normally...
