    Selling broody hatched chicks?

Our Roo has started his "roosterly duties" this week 😉 lol. We've got 9 BO hens, and one already tried to go broody late fall/early winter. So I'm just waiting for a broody hen. I'm wanting to let her hatch a clutch and sell the chick's. But I've read it may be better to wait and let her...

    Roo Not Going to Coop...

I watched them tonight... he is definition being not allowed in. We're thinking that the nights he  is in there, he must be getting inside before the big girls. But if he's coming in towards the back of the pack,, he's not allowed in.. How do I help my little weenie of a Roo not sit at the...

    Roo Not Going to Coop...

I can't think of the dimensions. But looking in on them at night, they are all huddled on one side and take up, maybe, half? We want a bigger one, which we'll start working on as soon as the weather starts to turn again. But we've not like the roost space available in it for a while. There...

    Roo Not Going to Coop...

So we have 9 BO hens that hatched in May, and got 2 more hens and 1 orp roo that hatched in September. There was some pretty normal pecking order issues in the beginning, but now everyone goes to the coop at night together on their own with no issue...except our Roo. Three separate nights...

    Where are my eggs?!

So when can you begin removing eggs to bring in, without scaring them off the spot? A couple days or as soon as a second one is laid?

    Where are my eggs?!

It was! Lol. Got our first one yesterday. Lol! It finally happened! I think I know who did it. Well, today we got #2, it was in a different spot than the first, and I didn't see who left it. Will each hen typically lay in the same place?/is this a second hen laying now? Or did the one just...

    Where are my eggs?!

Thank you! Luckily they're only on a quarter of an acre, so it's fairly narrowed down. But between the bushes, gardens, and brush under our biggest tree...it's a daily scavenger hunt. Lol!

    Where are my eggs?!

Thank you. Am I doing everything right or should I be doing something else? Lol And how well do they hide eggs once laid? Not at all/it'll be pretty obvious? Or should I be digging through their favorite bush with a fine tooth comb?

    Where are my eggs?!

Our first batch of girls are BO, and are 21 weeks old. They were on an organic layer feed for the last couple weeks, but this weekend will be switched to an "all flock" with free choice oyster shell (there is a gentleman moving out there with them lol). They get eggshell in with their food...

    When to officially "combine"...

We've got a 20week old BO flock of 9 hens. We've also got x3 3-4 week chicks (a lav. orpington rooster, and two mystery pullets). I've been taking their brooder outside during the day, the chicks have been out in the yard with the older girls a few times under supervision. The hens have...

Very Dark, Runny Poo in 3 week Chicks...

We've got three 3wk old chicks, all different breeds, who we've been slowly weaning off of heat. We still move the brooder inside at sundown, as nighttime temps are in the 40's. Daytime has been in the 70's and their brooder is sitting in the sun. They are doing wonderfully. I was getting...

    Stinky brooder!

I know this is an old post, but hoping you can walk me through how you weaned them! I've got 3, 3 week old chicks. I want to move them out soon. They'll be seperate from our older girls still. My first batch I moved outside around 3 weeks also, but it the low Temps were like 70-80°, so I...

    New Roo v. Alpha Hen

We have a flock of 9 BO girls, who're about 20 weeks (fingers crossed for eggs soon!). We have an obviously alpha/dominant hen. Very sweet with us/ the kids, but very much runs the coop. We also now have 3 chicks, who've about 3 weeks old. 2 "Rare assortment" girls and a lavender orpington...

18wk old BO Jen or Roo?

My original flock is now about 18 weeks. All BO. This one in the 1st pic...he's not crowing...but that tail ... roo? He's also got a few more of the "colored feathers" (see pic 2) on his tail than anyone else. Second pic is a close up (the best I could get) of some "discolored feathers" on a...
