I've been busy working part-time out of town. I do read alot of the posts, just don't comment. I still have my 6 hens that I just adore! My son built them a Chick-nic table & we've had alot of fun with that! Thanks for reaching out!
CKfarm22, I agree! Yesterday I told a lady I work with that I was dehydrating my eggs now & she said, "Well, there goes my free eggs". Yes ma'am! You're cut off! :D
Not a good picture, but this was 2 weeks ago. You can see Lap Chicken is almost as big as the Christines now. (I just call them all Christine because they all look alike & they're all a little crazy like my sister Christine!)
Thank you. I will look tomorrow evening after I get home from work. It's very possible it's not pure bred. We got it from a friend who bought the eggs to hatch, so I don't know where it came from originally. I've had it for 2 months, & until we let it loose with the Leghorns, it was my Lap...
Yes, I have 3 leghorns. They just started laying a month ago tomorrow. I'm not sure how old the Barred Rock is, but it's getting just about as big as the Leghorns now. I don't know how big Barred Rocks are supposed to get. Of course I have 2 Easter Eggers & 2 Plymouth Blue Rocks, but they're...
Hi all,
Today I went out to collect the eggs from my leghorns & there was a light brown egg with them. Is my Barred Rock a hen maybe? Everyone thought unanimously that it was a cockerel. It wouldn't stand still so I could get a good picture, of course! Thanks for your advice!

Well, after 29 years of my Ex not letting me have chickens, or more than one pupster, we got rid of him! 8 chickens, 4 bunnies & 3 pupsters are way better! We can do what we like now! And the lawn--I mean pumpkin plants--are growing nicely! :D:):D
I just got some kabocha seeds in the mail today! I'm sure they wouldn't have time to mature this season in Oklahoma, BUT... Last week I was cleaning out a huge patch of weeds in my yard, only leaving what little bermuda, white clover & dandelions there were. I was going to transplant some...
Oh my, they are destructive! The first time I ever planted a fall garden, just as everything was up & looking nice, an armadillo came & destroyed it! In his defense, he "tilled" it up in perfectly straight lines (following where I had watered, I'm sure). I chased him out of my yard with my...
So do I. I water plants with it. We put gutters on the 16' sides of the chicken coop & have a rain barrel on the 2 ends. (All we need is rain!) Mulch around plants really helps conserve water, too. I'm really lucky to have a well. I keep 2 mineral tubs filled--one by my garden & one on the...
