Topic of the Week - Dogs and Chickens

We were successful in training our two grown labs to co exist (when the birds are out) with our flock. At first though we tied our dogs onto a tie out and let the birds out to fly around and get close to see what the dogs would do. This also gave everyone the chance to not be too reactive to...

    Panicking! Scalped chick!

Yes as far as I can tell. I didn't see any with those ingredients and it didn't claim to. I went ahead and put some so it would have some sort of barrier.

Only about a week old. Any reason the pain relieving one shouldn’t be used? Thankfully hers isn’t that...

May I have opinions on these Tractor Supply coops?

Check your local Craigslist for builders. You may not have Amish around you….and if you do they may not use the internet? Haha I’m not sure. Also could maybe call a local Ag extension for some more info?

    Question!

Thank you very much! That’s very helpful! I really want some Golden Comets but I’m trying to figure out how to have more of them or at least very close to it without having to buy a few more every year or so. If the parents of the GC were New Hampshire Red Roo and White Rock Hen would the chicks basically be RIR x NHR and RIR x White Rock? Trying to get the thought process …like what Actually pops...

Successful 100% forage diet experiment (long post)

Thanks so much for your input and the article! I have done some research online and know of a somewhat local farm that raises chickens. I think I may reach out to that farm to see if they have what I’m looking for. 🙂

I'd say about 2/3 wooded with lots of areas to hide and scrounge. My two dogs are also out 24/7 so hoping they will help...

Successful 100% forage diet experiment (long post)

Hello! I was wondering what breed these are and if all your birds are the same? (the ones in and the ones out)...The hens here look similar to Australorps or black Jersey Giants to me but the roo doesn't haha. I was wondering what breeds I should try this with if I did. I assume some would do...
