@SnootyHen Any update on your coop? Do you like it? I was thinking of ordering a new coop and run from Chicken Condos as an upgrade, but am unsure if it is worth it. It sounds like they're a nightmare to work with.
I personally use pine wood shavings in my coop and haven't had any issues. They're absorbent and help keep the smell down. As @rosemarythyme mentioned, climate is probably an important factor in whether they'd be a good material for your coop.
