Building a 6x16ft Lean to Chicken Run

Ah I just read what you wrote, hm at the rafters there is a a 5.5” gap, I checked out other builds that didn’t have it, and I’m not sure anything would get up to there at 8ft high?

Building a 6x16ft Lean to Chicken Run

Hey guys, I'm back to say thank you for all of the advice you guys gave me in helping me to finalize my design plans for building my DIY Chicken coop. I am so proud of how it turned out, and so glad I listened about using galvanized metal roofing!! So far this is keeping them dry from storms...

Building a 6x16ft Lean to Chicken Run

Ah we wanted to have space for us to walk by the house, we were thinking we woulda put more plant things by the back of the house. I realize I could have atleast moved it down 1-2ft, but I’ll just work with what I’ve got for now.

KK I think I'll go with the metal roofing, I just comped it up and it looks nicer anyways.. hope we can pull it off!!!

Building a 6x16ft Lean to Chicken Run

yes its in the far corner of the yard, farthest away from where we share property with our neighbors, along the woods. What would u do though, the taller metal roof lean to structure for an extra $250 (the roofing is expensive), or the flat metal wire at 6-7ft tall thats gona let snow through etc?

Building a 6x16ft Lean to Chicken Run

KK thank you, so you truly think do the metal roof, let it go behind the fence (even if I put 1.5ft between the run and the fence, snow could still crack it?), and NOT do a flat/cheaper wire mesh roof? Now you all got me worried the town is gona consider it a 'shed' and have rules to go with how...

Building a 6x16ft Lean to Chicken Run

So the fence is plastic so idk if it will rot per say. Gutters would be great yeah but again idk what that costs/how to cut/install that. Will all of these issues still apply? Sounds like you're leaning towards a mesh wire roof for the fenced in run then yeah?

Building a 6x16ft Lean to Chicken Run

Thats our fence, and the land on the other side of the fence is township swamp ground property, behind that is a cemetery. Why would rain coming off of the roof cause issues? I just need to figure if we are gona do a wire mesh flat roof, and get the inside of the coop wet (and use mulch to...

Building a 6x16ft Lean to Chicken Run

Done! And we already have gravel put there, but its going to be the 'base', we might put mulch ontop. I would love the idea of a gutter but I dont know how to do all of that and trying to keep costs down too.

Building a 6x16ft Lean to Chicken Run

Thank you guys for your insight!! I was now considering maybe just using a mesh wire top and getting rid of the lean to design - but instead going with a flat top using 1x2” wire? My only concern is the run getting wet, someone told me to put down mulch over gravel to reduce the mud, that’s an...

Building a 6x16ft Lean to Chicken Run

I own the fence, and the land on the other side of the fence is township property, its swamp lands so nobody will be building on it. When you say rain coming off causing issues, what do u mean? I've revised the plan to be a little more affordable using 2x4s, let me know what you think of this?

Building a 6x16ft Lean to Chicken Run

I agree! But right now I made a raised bed, and I gave us about 10ft out from the fence line from where one of the beds are placed, so if we did a 6ft wide coop, that allows us 4ft walking infront. If I moved the run 3ft from the fence, well it would give us practically no room infront of it to...

Building a 6x16ft Lean to Chicken Run

Thank you so so much you guys!!!! Glad for the quick responses. Okay so perlins (aka 1x3s right?) instead of plywood at the top (what spacing do they need to be?). Stick with 2x6's for the roof, and yes we want the snow to go behind the fence. I just wasnt sure if we should protect the back...

Building a 6x16ft Lean to Chicken Run

Hey guys, I've built things before like furniture, but never something this large. We want to construct a 6ft x 16ft fenced in lean-to chicken run with a roof for 4-6 chickens. I've got 17x 8ft pressure treated 2x4's leftover from a project of mine, I'd really love to use them for the roof of...
