I have a neighbor who would like to spray some thistle killer. She has tried natural routes, but it is not working. She is worried about our chickens as they free range and go in her yard (she does not mind and loves them).
Any suggestions that are chicken safe?
This is our leghorn roosters feet. We noticed this yesterday. We live in Eastern Idaho and yes we have snow. This isn’t his first winter. Was this due to frostbite? Or something else?
Update: the hen is standing up and has full control of her neck. She is drinking and eating normal feed by herself. I did give her the dose of vitamin e this morning and I gave her some scrambled egg with the feed. Last night when I gave her last water for the night she was still completely...
Okay, I gave her the 1/4 cup of sugar water with a 400 of Vitamin E. She opened her eyes up and was trying to get away, but obviously can’t. But if I pulled up on her head she was actively drinking, but the moment I let go, she went limp at the neck again. She wasn’t able to try to eat feed or...
That was supposed to say drooping. I checked her and her crop is empty.
It’s possible that she could have been picked on. Otherwise hard to say. Yesterday, she was normal and fine. Answering when we called, eating, head and neck were upright.
Is it normal for them to resist eating and drinking? She will drink but then then she pulls back. Also, is it normal that she barely opens her eyes. She will but for the most part keeps them closed
I don’t know where we could get that kind of treatment until tomorrow, we live in a rural area and everything is closed. Though I could make scrambled eggs?
I didn’t get a pic when she was in the yard but just picture it like and ostrich. Head was straight onto the ground, not turned. Like she was trying to bury her head in the earth
We removed her and have her isolated. She was standing and if you touch her, she stands back up, but she is sleeping peacefully. But we just led her to her dish, though we had to hold her neck for her as support. When I tried to lead her again, she resisted and pushed back. So it felt like there...
Can it be wry neck if she is just drooling like a ostrich trying to bury it’s head? She will drink if we put her beak near water but she isn’t opening her eyes like she was an hour ago. She is breathing regularly.
She was fine yesterday. She is standing but her head is drooping and limp, but she is not turned and looking up (like the descriptions of wry neck). She is not labored breathing. Just standing with her neck limp and eyes closed. If you touch her she moves but not much. No noticeable discharge.
