Attention all polish chicken owners...when and how should I trim crests?

We trim ours all the time. We get about 5mm off the skin and trim from the edge of the eye to 1cm out wood. If we don’t they walk into things and tend to isolate themselves and not eat as much because they can’t see.

I tried to keep it short and to the point as well. I noticed a lot of articles are so long you start to think the answer you’re looking for isn’t in it or you start to skim read and miss something you where looking for.

I’ve never had one die on me. I’ve had a couple with splay leg but that’s fixable.

    Silkie x D’Uccle toes

If they are not both pure silkie then it’s normal not to have all hatchlings with 5 toes. If they are both supposed to be pure silkie and you get 4 toes, then someone isn’t pure down the line and you have a throwback.

    Silkie x D’Uccle toes

It a massive mix. Just because silkie is in there doesn’t mean they will have 5 toes. I have silkie crosses and less then half come out with 5 toes.

Hatch Assist Please be aware this is a controversial subject. Some people believe intervening is wrong and nature should take its course. Other will criticise and argue about the way you choose to intervene. It can take up to 36 hours to go from pip until it hatches. After 48 hours I will also...

    Speckled Sussex cockerel not developing

This is true and something I will have to mark to sell a bit later in life as POL. But when you have 50+ chickens I probably won’t notice if I keep them.

    Speckled Sussex cockerel not developing

I didn’t choose him. He was unseated and we have him a home, we have the room and he may as well have some girls to play with. Honestly, I like the slow development idea. I don’t have to deal with crowing for longer.
