Thank you for your reply.
The intent was never to limit this to Sand Hill or any single source. It was to see whether there was interest here in connecting people focused on long-term, utility-selected, non-industrial heritage lines, and in establishing connections that benefit that shared...
Because plainly zero interest both in the general thing I was talking about, and the specific proposal.
Not only from this thread but others on actually-heritage (not "heritage" Blue Andalusians, etc, from Tractor Supply).
Not at all objecting to others' interests, simply observing that the...
I'm proposing an idea.
Some really are not looking for birds whose last 30 or more generations of selection were in, essentially, a factory such as any of the major hatcheries. They want birds bred by people raising them outdoors, perhaps free range, even better in a lineage probably going back...
Thank you very much for your best wishes, and for your report. Ir's valuable to know that the Hoovers' turned out well. Much appreciated! And I will let you know if I find any good private breeders.
No one can compare heritage (I am not meaning Tractor Supply, Cackles, etc) Anconas with heritage Leghorns, from breeders maintaining the original birds the best they can?
Am I relegated to Tractor Supply, then?
(Their purported Old English Game, and any other seller who started with such would have no or little better.)
Since no one has suggested a breeder, I'd try Greenfire, but their max is two chicks.
Really there are none in the US worth recommending...
Thank you for your reply!
Thing is with eBay eggs, unless the seller posts more information than they usually do, for all I know the parent birds were from a mass hatchery with 30 or more generations of hatchery breeding, that on top of that might never have been the actual breed anyway, and if...
Hello, can anyone recommend an Oxford-style Old English Game breeder?
I can find the conveyor-belt hatcheries and Greenfire Farms, but have had no other luck.
I'm interested in birds raised outdoors, from a breeder caring about what he or she is doing.
Thank you!
If anyone has Andalusians who run, fly, and forage well, and like to roost in trees, i would really appreciate if you could let me know the breeder or hatchery you got them from. Thank you.
I have been very happy with Sandhill. 90 chick order received in three shipments, pretty close representation of my requests with variations matching the substitutions I said were fine.
One does need to realize that Sandhill is not a conveyor-belt hatchery where on the same day any particular...
I had five RIR's which my wife found locally and wanted -- they were supposedly "Heritage." Whether they were or not, I have no idea, as I think many buy birds from Tractor Supply or the like thinking they have a bird just like on farms 100 years ago, and then their offspring are sold and buyers...
