enrichment/enclosure for indoor setup (plants, toys, etc)

Look into a company called Kavee cages. I have an indoor bantam chicken I rescued and built out a 3 x3' cage from Kavee and have different blankets from them that I change out every week. I also have chicken plushies, scrunchies, etc that she loves to play with. I will tell you that having a...

enrichment/enclosure for indoor setup (plants, toys, etc)

I rescued a bantam chicken and she lives indoors with me and my other birds. (I do take them outside) I don't leave my home for more than 4 hours at a time because otherwise the place would stink to high heaven. Also I don't want her walking in her own poop. I also know she is bonded to me and...

    Are Opossums Misunderstood?

I feel like these opossums appreciate you and so they know not to hurt you or your family in order to keep being fed. ❤️

Comment by 'PrettyChicky25' in article 'Feeding Treats to Chickens in Moderation: What You Need to Know'

Great article, thanks! I have one rescued bantam chicken that lives inside with me and my parrots and dove. She likes to eat Nutriberries and won't even eat mealworms anymore because the other birds don't eat them. She does eat her Purina crumble as her main diet. Is anyone else feeding...

    How quickly do chickens age?

I'm really glad you posted this because my bantam stopped laying like 6 weeks ago too. I found her outside 2 years ago and I think she was young or a baby when I found her because her comb was small. She had coccidia though so the sickness may have made her comb smaller. I feed my parrots and...

Hens staying in run at night - freezing cold, why?!

Maybe they don't like the smell of poop in the coop.

Who here can speak chicken? Lol

Bribe them with blueberries. That's what I do with my bantam after she lays her eggs and starts doing the egg song. I run to get her a couple blueberries and she's so excited about the berries that she stops screaming. I live in a condo and it works every time. :) Also, they are probably...

    Choosing a rooster

Please don't kill the rooster. Give it away. Animals aren't put here for our enjoyment. They are living breathing beings that deserve respect.

    She's worse than a rooster!

When I found my bantam chicken she would crow like this all day long. I work from home and she lives inside with me so I thought I was going to go insane. Two things I discovered, #1 - she did not like her enclosure so I built her a bigger one, and #2 - she just wanted to be with me because she...

    Am I doing something wrong?

Why are they on the floor with no bedding or blankets? Would you want to sleep on a dirt floor?

Is it too late? Frostbite, lethargy

Get her a velvet blanket to snuggle up in. They are very warm. My bantam loves velvet blankets!

Would you keep a mean chicken?

Maybe try to figure out why she is so mean. Maybe someone was mean to her in the past. I once had a parrot who was always annoyed but then one day I looked at her life. I realized I always went to her last out of all my birds, during feeding, pets, etc. When I changed my behavior, her behavior...

Favorite actions or sounds of your birds?

Roo sounds cute! ❤️ My chicken will sometimes peck me after I pet her, and on occasion if I'm on the floor kneeling down to clean something she will come up and peck me in the butt. It's hilarious!

    NO TO COLD

Can you take her inside at night if it gets that cold?

Rooster will not stay away from the road

Hitting birds with sticks won't solve anything. They're birds, and that's mean. You need to give him a good reason to go somewhere else instead. Maybe another area with some bird toys or treats?

    Commander Toggles

Interesting. I just learned about these stress bars. I rescued a dove and think he had them on his tail too.

    Commander Toggles

Those are stress bars which generally indicate a stressor (in this case probably the coccidia) at the time of feather development and growth.

    Cage for indoor bantam chicken

She's got two parrots and a dove that she is friends with. They hang out. I work from home so she can hang out with me too all day. I do get her outside but live in a condo. I've been looking at houses but this is the best I can do for now.
