International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

I’m not sure if you can see better with these photos but I got some more today. Didn’t get a good shot of her other side she’s in motion, my phone died before I could get a better one. Let me know if these shots are better. If not I’ll bring her inside and try to get shots from there, though I’m...

International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Hmm, this one looks square to me but again I’m only just trying to train my eye. Maybe it’s the high tail, it certainly makes her back look shorter.

International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Yesterday, I did eggtopsies, to see if I could determine what went wrong. I don’t think it was a temperature issue. I had some mid to late incubation deaths but most were very well developed and fully developed chicks who were A) too big to get out of shell and position properly B) Lots of...

    Kebonnix 12-egg Incubator Thread

Ambient temperature may be the issue. My house does not hold a steady temp. I moved it to a warmer area for the second batch. I keep a blanket or sweater wrapped around it but am careful not to cover the vents. I think I have the same thermometer you are using. I’ve ordered another thermometer...

    Kebonnix 12-egg Incubator Thread

Well I have had nothing but bad hatches with the Kebbonixs incubator. I am not sure why. This last time I went with my digital thermometer because I didn't trust the incubator, First hatch in the bator was 2 out of 12. This year using the digital instead I got 3 out of 10 eggs to hatch, better...

International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Ok good to know. I think parasitic white will be my big thing to get rid of, but body type first. Is this one a boy? He’s my biggest chick.

International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Ahh temp and humid! I am using a hovabator 1588 forced air model. I bought some digital thermometer/hydrometer on amazon and calibrated the incubator to those. My temp was between 99.8 F - 100F for most of the incubation. Humidity according to the bator was around 40% sometimes dropping to 35% ...

International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Chick #1 without the red light. This one has the least white, and potential to be a good breeder. I hope! She’s ( I think she’s a she?) is chunky but the chunkiest is definitely chick #3, the one with way too much white hatch down.
