    lame hen

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I went out to take pictures and she was running around normally! I didn't wash her foot entirely so we're thinking she may have had some residual dirt, but she will be monitored going forward.

    lame hen

We have a hen come up lame this morning. Tiptoe when walking on that leg and holding it up when still. We also noticed the sound leg has a little rosy hue through it, and the lame leg is just yellow. The bottom of her foot looks good, and when she was on my son's are she showed no signs of...

    Treating bumblefoot first time

Thank you. Sounds like we're on the right track then. She's inside where it's clean and dry. We didn't have soap in the water, only epsom salts. What kind of soap do you recommend?

    Treating bumblefoot first time

This is our first experience with bumblefoot. Went through a few days of soaking, applying coconut oil, and infusing bandaging with neosporin to soften the callus. My son was finally able to get it removed today. We don't see any pus, and don't know how much more scraping/cleaning we need to...

    Returning hen outdoors in winter

We brought in a hen 2 days ago. Do we need to worry about returning her outdoors due to temperature differences? It's 32 F today, with an overnight low forecasted to be 25.

Thank you. We don't have an issue, just saw it on Amazon in chicken supplies and was curious.

    Storing crushed eggshells

Thank you for answering. Oven dried. We do not plan to rely solely on eggshell, but don't want to waste them either. I think I'll freeze and redry if need be.

    Storing crushed eggshells

I dried and crushed about 1/2 gallon of eggshells, but our girls won't be laying for another several weeks/month. Do they have a shelf life? If I freeze them will they sweat and be wet when we put them out?

    Afraid to come out

We moved our flock (15 weeks ) into the coop and left them for 4 days. Yesterday we opened it up and managed to bribe some of the bolder ones out. Do we just wait out the rest of them? Some will come down to the bottom and peck grass from there, but don't want to make that last step. The rest...

    PDZ or Stall Dry?

I see alot of people saying PDZ is dusty. Blain's Farm and Fleet sells this stall dry. https://www.farmandfleet.com/products/1342742-stall-dry-26-lb-stall-absorbent-and-deodorizer.html . I don't know if the ingredients are a little different, and primarily if it would be less dusty. Our...

Thank you. This sets our minds at ease.

    Mold concerns

Thank you for responding. We don't use straw in the chicken area, but shavings for bedding. Our only concern is if spores may have been carried in on our shoes and cause harm, but they would have dried quickly. The building is dry and warm.

    Mold concerns

We are having a very wet spring, and laid some straw on the walkway to our chicks. They are in my husband's dry heated shop. There was one flake of straw that had some mold (we've removed that since we realized that). We are concerned about mold spores that may have come in on our shoes...

    Eating a feather

Neutrena 18% crumbles. We're out there fairly frequently and don't see anyone picking on anyone. Struck us as a random feather. But we'll watch.

    Eating a feather

We have chicks together of multiple ages - 2, 3 and 4 weeks old. They get along fine. 2 days ago one found a feather and and was eating it. My husband grabbed it out of it's mouth, only the quill remaining. Do we need to worry? They have alot of space, temperature is good. It was one random...

    Cream colored EE

We purchased yellow chicks at TSC sold as Easter eggers. We realize there is a wide variety of colors. Our chicks are feathering out a clear cream color, no muff or beard. Could they still be EE, or possible mislabled?
