I just got black australorps from Mt Healthy, the chicks are 3 wks "old" now, healthy and happy floofers. Really sweet bunch of chicks, def more pricey than other places but they had what I wanted, when I wanted so I'm not griping about a few bucks more!

We just grew a nice batch of Numex Big Jim peppers, fire roasted them and made Colorado style pork green chili!

Yes, gardening is a whole new experience when there's nothing but sand. Under the big oak tree canopies are pretty much the only places there are that have a semblance of soil 😅

TreasureCoast here and while I'm no expert, I believe I raise healthier chicks by moving them out of the house as early as temps allow.
My new chicks are not quite 3 weeks yet, they're getting feisty and flybombing around the brooder. The brooder space is around 80 degrees with a brooder plate...
I'm in S Florida too, I have been able to let my chicks outside around 2-3 weeks old, at least during day time (they do have a brooder plate in their brooder). Nothing like spreading their wings and giving life a test ride! They've already been dust bathing in local substrate since 1wk old...
As long as they're healthy and bright eyed, I give my new chicks a tupperware dust bath of sand, fine pine mulch, coco coir, wood ash and DE (at about a week old) in their brooder and just watch closely for signs of diarrhea etc. They love it!
