Yes she did, she is a lil weaker than the silkie as she pipped first but didn't zip originally (day 20) so the silkie piped and zipped on day 21 and the barnevelder was still breathing through the pip the day later, she only started zipping when the silkie was laying next to her egg cheering her...
A quick update on my attempt to wing a hatch in nothing but a cardboard box, a bit of pure wool batting and a ceramic heat lamp after my broody didn't go broody. Out of 8 eggs, 4 were in fertile, all fertile 4 were alive on lockdown day, it's day 21, the silkie has hatched very healthy walking...
Little up date, candled eggs last night, one stopped developing Other 3 have filled out their eggs and as far as I could see looked alive, could see some veining around the air, sack, put them in 'lockdown' as best I could in a cardboard box and crossing fingers 🤞😊🌅
Will do 😊 if the lil guys make it 🤞I shall post pics and you are more than welcome to name one, thanks to your suggestions the temp has stayed a steady 37.7 all day long and humidity has upped nicely even with an open top, all that's left is to wait it out and hope
Yes it's a very odd set up done on the fly so not the best I'm afraid, I really didn't think any would be fertile but here I am lol.
So as per your wonderful advice (thank you again) I have wrapped the outside with Terry towel and lined the inside of the cardboard with thin wool batting to make...
THANK YOU! This is all fantastic advice I had not thought of.
I will double box tomorrow, I completely forgot I have a dual thermo/hydrometer and I have been worrying about that so I shall go find that now.
Gosh I have not had the box closed at all it's been open with the ceramic heat dangling...
Hi whoever sees this, I'm in a bit of a pickle, I was given a carton of eggs that were possibly fertile but not sure by a lady who collected them after her roo got busy, she sells them but gave me these to try under my usually broody hen as she wasn't sure if they were fertile, well my broody...
I have the same situation now and just found your post after a desperate search, mine is not comfortable and won't sit poor thing.
Crossing fingers I can get it clean it's in quite a sold mess.
Thank you for the updates, I hate seeing post without the ending.
Hello again, Just wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU! for all the help, suggestions and encouragement I was given during the incubator debacle.
I took the advice, I did all I could (thank goodness for heat pads in an emergercy) and the 5 that were somehow still alive, survived and are now in the...
Thank you much for all the help, I really appreciate it, I tried the trick and I have 5 chicks very much alive out of the entire 48 and 4 with veining but no movement and the black blobs look different, like they are smudging down the side of the egg like paint splatter for lack of a better...
Hello, thank you for the detailed reply, I could see some light veining on some and none on others, I'm not sure if it's because the veins are breaking down or because the shell was thicker (or just wish full thinking)
I will try the flashlight and paper tube now, it's pretty dark here (2am)...
Hello, the incubator says day 13, I have 2 that are very dark, good veins and definately moving, the photos I could see very little or no veins just dark blobs and I couldn't see any movement but the light was terrible but on the two that ver very much alive and moving they lit up well
I did calibrate them and it has been consistently one degree higher on the left (37. 5 degrees c) to the right and the machine temp on the screen has just been all over the place so pretty disappointed.
Hi, I have a Chinese off brand one, I got two seperate thermostats to read the temp and humidity and they all read different by 1 degree C.
They are rather terrible but all I could see was black odd shaped blobs little to no veining and no movement except one I thought the blob... Pulsed but...
Hi, I have 13 to 14 day incubated eggs (australorp, silkies and a breeders personal breed she calls cupid or cute pet) and although I have watched countless videos I'm not sure what I am looking at, the candler I got is rather useless so had to use my phone, could anyone who has some knowledge...
Hello, does anyone want to hazard a guess as to weather these chicks are M or F? I'm not sure of the breed the mum was a wild gen we found 2 feet from the dog track, she laid her eggs right in the dirt with zero cover and right in the path of dogs ect so we brought her home and gave her a coop...
