Doubt it helps anyone who may stumble across this post but Juniper went to the vet and many growths/tumors were found in her abdomen and is now in birdy heaven. Fly high sweet bird.
Also I did my best to look down her throat several times and I could not see much but did not appear to be any parasites. They all got dewormed maybe 4 months ago with albendazole.
Hello again,
I have a two ish year old Silkie hen, my sweet Juniper, who maybe a few weeks or a month ago seemed to be displaying symptoms of water belly, she seemed like she wasn’t breathing easily and I did drain her of a lot of yellow/clear liquid. I’d had to do this before with another much...
I wanted to update, almost a year later, Misty is doing well and although it took a long while, her butt floof filled back in! Thank you all again!
“Bok bok” -Misty
Thank you…
Yesterday I thought it was just infected. There was no signs on his pad but thought maybe it was a bloody feather uhh hole. So I soaked him and cleaned and ointment and wrap… today he was hopping around so I brought him in for another soak and when I pulled him out I realized his...
I hope your girl is doing better.
FYI regarding Kurochka Ryaba (Ryaba the chicken/hen), Ryaba is a common Russian chicken name after the folk tale of Kurochka Ryaba. I named one of my hens Ryaba after a chicken in one of my favorite books.

Sorry I’ve not replied. I was gone for a week and recently returned home. Misty is doing well, foot is still swollen but definitely looks better than at the start. Shes eating normally and out with all the other chickens now so I know she’s happier. I’m hoping in time the swelling will disappear...
Sorry, that was probably confusing. I was initially trying tylan and baytril. She prescribed tri-sulfa. Anyway, she was chipper at 5am this morning when I left, we’ll see when I get home from work. 🤞🏻
Thank you both. I will grab some greek yogurt at the store this weekend. I’ll check out the fermented feed too. Thank you.
Had I not got the stronger meds from the vet I was going to try liquid doxycycline from BirdPal or maybe amoxicillin.
I hope you’re able to help Precious!
Swelling is going down some. Misty is still not interested in eating anything beyond leaves, cabbage, and grapes. I’ll be happy when we’re done with these antibiotics.
I started off weighing them but generally speaking the bigger birds were 4-6 pounds and the little ones were 2-3 so half way along I just started dosing them either 1/2 or 1/4 ml which seems so minuscule but 🤞🏻
Well no more round worms coming out but she’s hardly eating. Her favorite food right now seems to be leaves. Shes also been eating grapes and blueberries but can’t hardly get her to touch meat or eggs or feed. Shes also been clicking her beak strangely. Foot swelling hasn’t gone down really but...
Oh… uhhh, some amount of worms is always a thing? Never seen one passed before. Guess the antibiotics are doing something.
Edit: Looks like TSC has Valbazen in stock so guess I have to weigh and worm 40 chickens this weekend. I think I’ll wait for a couple weeks to give Misty any dewormer…
Id like to add I genuinely appreciate the advice and I hope it doesn’t seem like I came here and asked for help to just blow you off and go to the vet.
