I have mine on shredded straw with peatmoss dust baths... between the peat dust and spilled food, I think it makes poo cement, LOL. Worth trying the sand if it will help.

So, one of my hens has had this little growth on her head. And I just noticed today that there is a hole in the skin, and underneath its black, and looks like matted hair.... bird doesn't seem to be in distress, even when it's touched.
Wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to what it is, or...
I am letting them be, hoping that they just need recovery time... but, the majority of my flock is old, and seems to be egged out, so, Having more than 2-3 eggs a day would be nice.

Got a bunch of unique and New (to me) colours in my most recent hatch. They're growing into their colours quite nicely.
