    Any Chance of Fertility?

Recently we unexpectedly lost our favorite silkie rooster. He was absolutely perfect in type and my favorite color, splash. We affectionately called him Splish the splash silkie. When we lost Splish, we lost the ability to breed him. Our hens and roosters are kept separately from one another...

Silkie Hen Feathers Strangulated Chick Leg - Unsure How to Proceed

They're great! Still difficult to tell if they're male or female, but I'm learning towards male (darn!), so I've been referring to them as a 'he'. He will have a home here either way :) He is VERY small compared to all of the other chickens he was hatched with, but is otherwise thriving. I was...

Is Angel Wing Painful for Ducks?

I have read that angel wing is a purely cosmetic issue for ducks, and that other than rendering them unable to fly it causes no health risk. Other sources imply that the worse the case is the more likely it is to be painful for the duck. Is there any evidence to support either of those claims?

Peachick born with curled toes, will these boots correct it?

It seems as though all your advice has paid off! He is unwrapped and walking like a champ. He’s my first and only peachick right now so I was really worried about him. Thanks for all of your help!

Sponsored Post Nestera Coop Giveaway! Total worth $1595

resistance to red mites is dope, I’ve never heard of that before! I picked up some bricks for my duck coop and they had red mites all over them, I washed them off thankfully but I didn’t know they were that bad.

Peachick born with curled toes, will these boots correct it?

@KsKingBee it worked!! I didn’t get a chance to snap a picture, I apologize. But I fixed his boots and this morning they were straight, but I noticed he was splayed. Used some vet wrap and now he’s standing and (awkwardly) walking! Thank you SO much!!! I was so worried he wouldn’t be okay.

Peachick born with curled toes, will these boots correct it?

@KsKingBee Alright, everything heard. I'm going to try and do a really good tape job when my fiancee gets home and can help hold the peachick. I'll make sure the ankle is flexed and spread the toes out more, and then I'll upload a picture in a few hours. Thank you for your help!

Peachick born with curled toes, will these boots correct it?

@KsKingBee I’ve redone them and put him on top of a microfiber to help with traction, do these look any better? He will sit with his legs under him in almost a squat, similar to the position the chick on the right in the above picture — but I haven’t seen him walk. When should I worry if I don’t...

Peachick with Curled Toes -- Are these boots applied right?

I posted this in Peafowl too but I forgot to add the tags, so I'm posting it here as well. About 30 minutes ago I hatched a single peachick (long story). I believe he was shrink-wrapped, I had to assist him in hatching after about a day and a half, but he's out now. The humidity during his...

Peachick born with curled toes, will these boots correct it?

About 30 minutes ago I hatched a single peachick (long story). I believe he was shrink-wrapped, I had to assist him in hatching after about a day and a half, but he's out now. The humidity during his lockdown was way too low, and I've read that can cause foot problems. When I put him in his...

Conflicting Info about California Valley Quail

I recently purchased 33 (asked for 20 and was given LOTS of extras!) California Valley Quail hatching eggs, that are currently in my incubator. I’m using a Nuture Right 360, and I’ve got them set at 50/55% humidity and using my automatic turner. I’ve got it set for 23 days, lockdown on day 20...

Silkie Hen Feathers Strangulated Chick Leg - Unsure How to Proceed

Just an update on this guy — he is doing SO well. His foot fell off, but he has the majority of his leg. I’ve been keeping it wrapped while the joint, which is right where he lost it, heals. He gets around better and better every day, once he’s full grown I want to look into some prosthetics for...

Three Silkie Roosters and One Silkie Cockerel For Sale - Ohio

Three adult silkie roosters - One gorgeous gold partridge, one black with gold leakage, one black with a little white leakage. Just tightening up my breeding program and don't need them in it. I am unsure how old they are, I bought them as adults, but I would say the oldest would be about 2...

Silkie Hen Feathers Strangulated Chick Leg - Unsure How to Proceed

So… his foot is actively in the process of falling off. It was bleeding a little today after weeks of no blood so I checked on him, and this is what I saw. Should I just let this fall off on its own? It seems to still sort of be attached, but I’m worried it’s going to catch on something and get...

How many duck eggs did you get today?

If anyone is looking for great duck layers, we have Anconas who started laying around 4 months and consistently lay every day! We also have a Pekin we rescued, she only lays a few times a week. We don’t induce egg-laying in our ducks so they’ll drop off during the winter, especially since it...

Silkie Hen Feathers Strangulated Chick Leg - Unsure How to Proceed

Thank you so much! That is so incredibly helpful! I will absolutely look into that for him. I wouldn’t mind working that out for him, he has a forever home with us. He will most likely be penned by himself, unless we (hopefully don’t) end up with some additional disabled chicks. I feel bad but...
