    Chicken biting off her feathers

Thank you. I’ll try that out. We have eggshells on the side ( I forgot to mention that) but I can add in oyster shells too for variety.

    Chicken biting off her feathers

That’s a great question. She’s at the bottom. I don’t see her eat the feathers but maybe she is. I was supplementing with high protein snacks when I noticed feathers in another chicken’s poop, but have stopped since the problem seemed fixed. I think I’ll try the extra protein again and see if...

    Chicken biting off her feathers

Yes, I see her do it. It’s like she’s preening but going overboard. Her body is strange because her neck is short and it looks like her spine is a little curved. Her body has been noticeably different since she grew out of being a chick. This behavior is relatively new.

    Chicken biting off her feathers

Hi All! One of my 18 mo old buff Orpingtons has a body that is a little strange. Her neck is shorter than the other girls so she can't reach all around her body to preen like they do. She's also a little lopsided and looks like she could use a good chiropractic adjustment! She is a sweet and...

    Wet poop?

Thank you. I’ll look into that more. I thought they only excreted those through the white part of the poop.

    Wet poop?

I only noticed them yesterday and there were maybe 3. I’ll check again tomorrow and see what I find.

    Wet poop?

Thank you. And is the feather eating something to be concerned about?

    Wet poop?

Thank you. It’s so weird because it looks more like poop and pee than diarrhea. Does your bird poop clear liquid too?

    Wet poop?

Hi chicken community! I have 5 buff Orpingtons that are 8 months old. They all started laying around 4 months old. I'm in Seattle and it has gotten colder and darker recently. Now there are only 1-2 that are laying and there are at least 3 that I can see are molting. They've all been on layer...

Soft shells and maybe hen not laying?

I actually think she is molting! I noticed she was dropping a bit more feathers lately. She's only 7 months old so I figured it wasn't that, but today I checked her out and saw some pin feathers near her vent. She is quite a bit bigger than the other birds and I guess is just maturing faster...

Soft shells and maybe hen not laying?

Thank you for those suggestions and that info! I am trying to figure out who is laying and have been tracking where they sleep. I haven't been finding any soft eggs or weirdness in the coop recently, so that's great. Today I noticed that one of the birds has a comb that looks more pink than red...

Soft shells and maybe hen not laying?

Good to know. Do you recommend I do anything at this point? They all seem to be energetic and behaving normally. Would one be lethargic or obviously affected if she had egg parts stuck in her or whatever the problem could be? I don’t really know enough to know what the problems could be. It...

Soft shells and maybe hen not laying?

Thank you. They have crushed up eggshells available all the time and I occasionally sprinkle oyster shell pieces around the run or mix them in with the eggshells. They don’t seem to like them as much as the eggshells. I off and on give them “Ultimate Scratch “ seeds but it’s about 1 Tbsp for 5...

Soft shells and maybe hen not laying?

Hi! I have 5 eight months old buff Orpingtons that have been great layers up until recently. It’s October in Seattle and the days are getting shorter so I’m guessing this is part of the reason why. There’s other things going on too though and I’m confused as to what’s happening. In the past...

    Dry comb or favus?

I’m in Seattle WA, USA. They’ve pretty consistently been laying 4 eggs/day the past month and no molting that I’m aware of. They molted around 6 weeks and I think they aren’t supposed to molt again for another year.

    Dry comb or favus?

How many times a day/week do you apply the Vaseline?

    Dry comb or favus?

Other experienced people agree this is dry skin and ok to put coconut oil on?
