Last year, I ordered 6 chicks from My Pet chicken- the customer service was excellent, and the chicks arrived on time. One died during shipping, which is to be expected, I suppose, but the rest of the chicks grew up small for their breeds and lay fairly small eggs. Am I at fault for this, or was...
I'm picking up chicks from out-of state and need to find a heat source that can be used in the car easily- I'm thinking a battery powered heat lamp, but I can't find one anywhere. Thanks!
My RSL is panting constantly and holding her wings out to the side slightly. Is she just hot, or is there something wrong? She definitely doesn't have an impacted crop.......
She was walking in the store, and she's drinking, but not eating.I don't know how a photo would help because she looks perfectly healthy, no deformed feet/legs or anything, she just sort of sits on her ankles instead of standing.
I got a few chicks today (one day to one week old) and the EE is not walking or perching at all, and her wings seem to droop a bit. Any ideas what is wrong with her? should I return her to the feed store and trade her in?
Thanks, everyone! it sounds as though Brahma is the way to go. Thanks for mentioning the smaller birds from McMurray... anyone know about the quality of the Brahmas from Meyer? I'm splitting an order with my friend who always orders from them.
I'm looking to add a few new birds to my flock........I've decided I want some big, cold-hardy girls (for Colorado winters) that lay fairly well. Both the Jersey Giant and the Brahma
fit the bill, so I was wondering what the great folks on BYC thought.
Thanks!
I can't help but think the pullets I have now seem a bit small for their age. What are the average weights for an 18 week old heavier breed such as the Australorp, S. Sussex, and Sex link?
My 7 y.o. daughter is dead set on walking her favorite chicken around on a hen holster do chickens really "walk" on a leash as if they were a dog, or what? something tells me the leash won't work.....
How do I tell the difference between a full crop and a impacted crop? A few of my chicken's crops have gotten to around tennis-ball size, and one is making a strange "swallowing" movement a bit like in this video:
Sooo..... my girls are due to start laying in feb/march, and I was wondering if they would actually start laying then or if they would wait until the warmer months...?
