Although the exact opposite advice from me, I think this is a very good approach for some people & some chickens. I don't have the patients or the tolerance for injury to do this myself, nor do I want to dress in armor just to see my chickens, but I can see the appeal of it.
There's no one...
Well, if Pepper attacks, it's really suboptimal to relocate her before disciplining her. The time delay involved lessens (and sometimes fully negates) the really important 'immediate repercussions' aspect of animal behavior modification.
Chickens are (from my reading) visual learners. The...
That's very generous. What did you have in mind in terms of helping? FYI, I'm not emotionally ready to let him go just yet, but I know it's only a matter of time. Wife ordered a no-crow. I'm a little concerned about it choking him, but it seems like all I have left are picking between bad...
I am new to chicken keeping, so my opinion may be less helpful, but I am not new to having pets in general. I've also spent a lot of time this month reading and researching chicken behavior. My advice:
Animals in general: You can not tolerate any sort of attack or obvious aggression towards...
Appreciate that. It's been quite emotional to get past what now seems like our absolute denial about him being a cockeral. Now that you all have confirmed it, wife and I are like 'now everything makes much more sense'.
I have to say, one of the most hilarious things is, whenever any of them try...
Happy Holidays everyone,
One of our 4 birds has recently developed some concerning traits. We are new chicken keepers, so some more experienced eyes would be helpful. Of the 4, she is the most aggressive, alpha pullet. Developmentally, she showed the exact same behaviors on virtually the same...
People recommend Epsom salt baths (just plain Epsom, not any scent, etc) for muscle pain/relaxation in chickens. There's videos. It's definitely not a cure all, and sometimes things get worse anyway, but it is something you can do if you don't want to let her be.
Photos of nests and placement in the coop? I can do that. Will 8x10’s do, and do you think the hens need the pictures in color? I can stick them up right across from the roost bar so pictures of nests is the first thing they see when they wake up in the morning.
😂
My four all had very different growth rates in early weeks. We too, were pretty worried, particularly about the smallest one, but at about 7-8 weeks they started to equalize.
The biggest is still the biggest though, lol.
Hi all.
I have a ~10 week old EE that I've raised since 2 days old, along with 1 other EE, a polish, and a Silver laced plymouth rock. All are definitely pullets. This particular EE grew really, really fast and almost from hatching until about 4 weeks ago was easily twice the size of the...
