Aww, poor baby, that looks painful. I think you're doing all the right things! If you're going to soak her foot, I'd use sea salt instead of Epsom salts. You could try making a poultice (wet, herby goop) and putting it inside her booty. Some good options for poultice material would be...
Research "wry neck"...I don't know much about it except that it happens to chicks and ducklings and can be caused by a nutritional deficiency. I am sure others here will have better info for you. Good luck! Your ducklings are adorable!
Ducks are so wonderful. Congratulations!
Papaye already gave you some great advice. I would add to make sure to supplement your ducks with niacin--you can use liquid B complex for this OR you can use fortified nutritional yeast mixed with their food.
I love the book "Storey's Guide to Raising...
Ruth, thank you so much for your thorough and thoughtful reply! I'm going to re-read it a few times to understand this situation more completely. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. 🥰
Hmm...I don't know much about Angel Wing. Those pin feathers do look a little strange coming in, but it might be completely normal. The diet you're feeding them sounds great. Hopefully someone with more experience might be able to help.
Disclaimer: I'm still a beginner when it comes to breeding ducks, and I have trouble wrapping my head around genetics.
Almost two years ago, I received 5 sibling runner ducklings from a local backyard duck keeper. Four were males--we kept one female and one male. These ducklings grew into...
Well. This happened to us a couple years ago. We had five runner ducklings and four were males--they were over-mating my female and being total jerks. We ate three of them, problem solved.
Both the males and females cheep/peep. But when their voices change, the females start quacking whereas the males sound like croaking frogs. I played the video again, and unless you've got another mature duck sorta half-hearted quacking in the background, I am hearing tiny quacks at the tail-end...
OP, how are your birds doing now? I treat my birds with colloidal silver spray (directly on their beaks, making sure to get it into their nostrils) any time I notice respiratory issues. It has worked well for me, and works quickly when it's the correct treatment.
Seems to be the season for duck...
I can't really tell from the photos, but is your duckling crested or is that poof on his head just some feathers that came in early? I have heard crested ducks may take longer to feather out. They are also prone to health issues. I have zero experience with them myself, but might be something to...
With any respiratory issues, I've had great success with spraying colloidal silver directly onto my ducks'/ducklings' beaks, making sure to get it into their nostrils. 3-4x daily until symptoms resolve.
