Thanks everyone for your Kind comments. We love our coop and everyday we get about 16 eggs. We haven't been on the site for some time. So we will try to post some new Pics., soon.
This is the beginning of our new family home!
Coop DeLisle...
This all started because of all the bugs in the yard that destroyed last year's garden. After searching the web, we found backyardchicken.com and got hooked, which was not that hard as we love animals. The platform was an old wooden...
In my experience, you do not choose the hen; the hen decides herself that she wants to sit on eggs. One day you find her in the nest, and she flattens herself out like a pancake and ruffles her feathers and growls at you to leave her alone! I don't think you can just pick a hen and make her...
We ordered two Silver Gray Dorking pullets. When we looked on feather site (see link below) they look like males to us. What do you think?

Well, Stella is in orientation over her new flock she will be in charge of. She is studying them intently so that she can learn their idiosyncrasies and be there for any events calling for her expertize. Her last flock has prospered because of her unfailing loyalty. Such a good chicken keeper!
I actually did that to my coop. When I started to build it I realized it was already to small, so I added the back on it. Check out my coop page and it may give you an idea. We keep about 20 to 25 with a no vacancy sign after that. I love my chickens and the size of flock we keep. Good therapy...
Hehe. I remember how proud we were that our flock looked so beautiful for so long. That is what happens with such tender-loving care! But then, they suddenly began to look like moth-eaten old coats--tails gone, red lookin' backsides, oh no! But then, the feathers began to come back in (now...

So tell me, the allure of the bantams; is it just a LF in a little body? Are they similar temperaments, just small? Obviously the eggs of a bantam are a lot smaller, so is it just the idea of a small bird that is so appealing? I find it so fascinating!

Yes they were sexed at the hatchery. We hope they are right. So far they have always been correct for us. I guess will find out in a few weeks. As they get older will try to post more pics. Thanks.

I personally do not like the bleed out method. I prefer to cut off the head or at least cut the artery and then break the neck. No matter what anyone tells me, those roos have looked very much alive and suffering to me while they bled out. Twitching i can handle - eyes opening and...

I'll second that and add that instead of concrete block, I would like a rock building like you would see in the french countryside. And a huge run on the side for times when the chickens could not free-range. And up the hill would be my french country farmhouse with a big front porch...
