    Sick hens - ideas/advice needed

Ah OK. I'm in Michigan. I'll take a look. I know a vet who has done necropsies on hens but it is expensive with her and my tab is already pretty high lol I know she and people she's worked with have said with birds it's hard to tell what exactly it was even with a necropsy... but still worth a...

    Sick hens - ideas/advice needed

Thank you. I'll see about vitamins. I do add things to their food to boost it some and they get lots of fresh fruits and veggies.

    Sick hens - ideas/advice needed

Thank you for the advice. I'll look at more stuff. It's hard with how many symptoms overlap to figure it out! I'm the only chicken keeper in my neighborhood but I'll absolutely take precautions to prevent spread either way.

    Sick hens - ideas/advice needed

I have her and the other hen that passes this way in a freezer. In both cases, they only started acting off maybe a week at most before dying. Usually my other hens go after the unwell ones (I have a one-eyed hen kept separate) and I only notice that maybe 3 or 4 days before they pass. It seems...

Small update. She passed last night. I'd still like everyone's guesses so I can prevent this in the future.

    Sick hens - ideas/advice needed

Hello! I'm a newer chicken keeper. I had a hen pass away of something sudden, and now another (months after) is ill with seemingly the same thing. Symptoms from both my gone hen and the now sick hen: Lethargy, green runny stool, not walking/using legs properly. At first drinking and eating but...

Official BYC Poll: Do You Wear a Mask or Respirator When Cleaning Your Coop?

I have sometimes, mostly if I'm doing a big clean after not having time to do it, or more often in the Winter when my hens are staying in their basement set up. Typically my small flock (4 adult hens and 4 young chicks) isn't too messy.

Close enough! I wouldn't mind driving over. Can you message me for details? I tried and it wouldn't let me.

Looking for female friends for new boy!

Hiya. I rescued a young (11w now) male quail just a about a week ago. The owner was going to kill him, so I scooped him up. But now he's been screaming a lot. I feel bad having him alone, but at least he's safe. My family has fallen on hard times so my budget for friends is pretty dry. If...

    Young Hen Help

Not so happy update 💔 I made the decision to euthanize after meeting up with a vet after work. She said the issues were very likely genetic, Thyme wasn't going to ever not be in pain, and it would spread to her other muscles before eventually ending her. I miss her dearly but I know she needed...

    Young Hen Help

Thanks for the reply :) I haven't given her the vitamin B yet, I'll grab that asap. She's on an all flock feed and gets fresh water a few times a day, eating/drinking well. She's been getting some fresh herbs and veggies, as well as dried herbs in her feed. Rosemary, dill, parsley, etc. I made...

    Young Hen Help

I forgot to mention, she's a light brahma. Which I've heard can have some issues. Of course I only saw that after getting her and two others. One of her siblings somehow escaped her pen and my yard and vanished, and I suspect had a neuro issue. The other was fine for a few days, then started...

    Young Hen Help

Hiya. I've been having trouble with my 5m old hen. She started with just some trouble walking, one leg didn't want to work well. There were no injuries or signs of anything by look or feel by me or my mom, who has a vet tech background. I've been texting with other techs and a vet I'm close...

    New member :)

Hello! My name is Fritz. I recently got into backyard chicken-ing and have 5 hens right now, 4 are laying, one is still young. Juniper, Saffron, Ginger, Hazel, and Thyme. I'll be grabbing a few more next spring :) I joined since I've come here already for advice a good bit.
