About four weeks ago we got the cutest little jubilee Orpington chicks from a local breeder. This is the first time we’ve gotten day old chicks in two years! Hubs isn’t a fan of having a brooder inside so we’ve stuck to getting grow outs every other time. I’m so excited to watch these babies...
My Delawares hug me too! They’ll get on my lap and peck at my shoulder until I lean down into them some and then they stretch their necks out over my shoulder and back. They’re so sweet 🥹
Here’s a few more pics of Butter because they crack me up. The two in the chair are her right after thanksgiving when she was looking her chonkiest and had finally gotten all her new feathers back after going through a horrible looking molt. Last few pics are of said horrible molt 🤭
This is “Butterball”, my big boned buff chantecler hen. I got some scratch grains to give everyone in preparation for the big temp drops coming our way in Kentucky and she definitely didn’t waste any time chowing down. Shes a stocky girl but I’ve never seen her stuff her crop quite this much...
I see Tinkie’s underpants 🤭
For my birthday a few days ago my gift to myself was bringing one of my Delaware hens inside for some cuddles and I ended up getting some cute pics 😁
I have several different breeds, chanteclers, barred
Plymouth Rock, light Brahma, choc Orpington, standard and bantam Cochin, black copper marans, lavender Orpington, buff Orpington, silkies, and Delawares. By far my favorites are my two Delaware hens, they’re the flock leaders, not mean to the...
I did not, after doing more research on my own I’m almost positive she had FLHS. When I did her necropsy I remember her liver being extremely fragile and almost disintegrating in my fingers as I was moving it around to look. That was very different from the few other livers I had examined during...
I’ve gotten my sketchbook back out recently and done a few quick chicken sketches, nothing fancy, just trying to get better with proportions and trying out some gesture drawing type stuff. I love drawing but can get hung up on small details so I’m trying out a looser style :)
I just looked up...
This pic was too funny not to share! This is Butter, and she’s going through her first adult molt and dropped almost all her feathers at once. I couldn’t get a front or rear pic but she looks so silly with a naked butt full of pin feathers. I felt so bad for her when they first all fell out...
Just wanted to add, I feed them a mix of kalmbach henhouse reserve and the kalmbach plumage feed (idk what it’s actually called). I don’t think it could have been from mycotoxins, everyone else is fine and the food is kept completely dry and is eaten and replaced approx every 30 days.
Hello everyone, I came home this afternoon and found one of my hens dead in the run :(
It was extremely sudden, she hadn’t been showing any signs of sickness. No loss in appetite, no lowered energy, no respiratory signs, didn’t feel skinny, normal poop, just came home and found her. I spend a...
*disclaimer* bloody pics, but no actual harm done thank god
Every night I do a head count and tuck my girls in and get in some bedtime snuggles before closing up the coop. Last night I went in, looked to the left where the nesting boxes are and saw my big fat chantecler, butter, roosting on the...
Are they Delawares? I have two Delaware hens that are a year and a half old. We got them as little chicks and they’ve been so wonderful. Mines names are Willow and Tinkie. Tinkie was always the most outgoing and friendly. I was sure she was going to be a rooster but I was wrong! By the end of...
