Favorite Chicken Breed?

I have a couple different breeds who all have their strengths and weaknesses, my Black Copper Maran lays beautiful dark brown eggs that also taste really good, my Lavender Orpington consistently churns out an egg a day during laying season and is super sweet, although she has gone broody multiple times, and then my Light Brahma, who is very cold hardy, which is handy because it gets pretty cold where I live, but most importantly, she is an absolute clown and always puts smiles on my family's faces.

6th vote for easter eggers lol! Ilove how there is such a wide, unpredictable variety of colours they come in as well as the curiosity of what colour the eggs will be (i mean, if the hatchery doesn’t tell you beforehand haha. The one i will be buying from doesn’t say so i’m game for surprises)

I dont particularly care about egg color, I like a nice dual purpose that lays well, is hardy and long producing/long lived (lifetime egg numbers are more than the egg specific breeds, just more spread out) excellent scavenger/forager and defensive against wildlife, amazing mothers, mild temperament, good in my climate (zone 6, so not COLD birds but not HOT either) and as a bonus lays well through the winter. So there is really only one answer, DORKINGS! I LOVE THEM ❤️

My response isn't original by any stretch of the imagination, but my EE is by far the most curious, smart, and consistent layer in my free-range flock. She's never had any issues getting back inside the coop and hasn't had any health issues so far. Definitely my vote for hardy, friendly breed!

Hey y’all!! I’m wondering, what is your FAVORITE chicken breed?

I want the best egg producer, but I know that the ones bred for production are prone to short lives and/or health issues. So what is your tried and true, healthy, productive hens?!

Just tryna plan for possible chicks this spring. ☺️

Thanks in advance!

Mutts - best ever. I have a bunch of mutts here that lay pink blue and green eggs, I also have daughters of those mutts from my Polish Roo and they too are lovely hens. You just can't go wrong with a good old fashioned barnyard mix - mutt!

Buttercup - lays blue eggs - have not idea what's in her background - best mutt ever!

I have several different breeds, chanteclers, barred
Plymouth Rock, light Brahma, choc Orpington, standard and bantam Cochin, black copper marans, lavender Orpington, buff Orpington, silkies, and Delawares. By far my favorites are my two Delaware hens, they’re the flock leaders, not mean to the other girls but not push overs by any means. Both are very inquisitive and friendly, they’re both lap chickens and love cuddling with me or my daughter. My second favorite breed would have to be my light Brahma. She’s super sweet and friendly, very chill, also a lap chicken and loves any kind of interaction she can get with people.
Oh my! My Delaware.. Della, is the most friendly chicken ever!!! She literally begs to be held.. and she actually hugs you😍 I also had a light Brahma who was also extremely friendly! I definitely want to have a buff Brahma one day as I think they are gorgeous!!

My Delawares hug me too! They’ll get on my lap and peck at my shoulder until I lean down into them some and then they stretch their necks out over my shoulder and back. They’re so sweet 🥹
