Reba lived in the house for almost a year. She recovered completely (a miracle), except for a limp. I did have some difficulty introducing her back into the flock, as they pecked her. I then put her in the coop inside a wire dog kennel and only let her out with them under supervision...
I think you are right Mis Lydia about the others thinking of her as the "weak link". She may never be able to go back out with them. I'm in the process now of ordering a chicken diaper so she can walk around the house during cold weather.

HI KImberly,
Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried the "overnight thing". If fact, She was out there all night last night. She can't roost (due to her one leg not working properly), so she stayed in one of the nest boxes all night. It was this morning when she got down with the...
Well, since I last wrote about "Reba", she had all but completely healed (from the neighbor's dog attach), but still limps badly. It's been almost 3 months. I think it is more nerve damage than actual pain. She just doesn't seem to want to put weight on the one leg. Otherwise she does great...
I have a collie/shepard mix and a Jack Russell. Both are good around the chickens. Both "had the talk" when I brought the chickens home. I think any dog will be okay with proper training. ONce they realize that they are part of "the herd" that they are responsible for. Just like the cats...
I'm sorry to hear about your ducky. Reba (my chicken) has made progress, but is not really walking. It is still appears painful to put her weight one on of her legs.
This morning, I put a splint on that leg. She really hates that. She is eating and drinking fine, but still can't walk, she...
I haven't yet figured out how this forum works. I see some people have pictures to the left, and a signature block with a listing of all their critters. I would like to do something like that.
Can someone tell me how that is done?
Reba is doing okay. She eats and drinks when I offer her something. It hurts her to try and walk, but she still tries. She uses her wings to balance herself and sometimes uses her beak to push herself up.
I hope the majority of the posters are correct in that she will recover!
Thanks...
To Drumstick diva,
The neighbor guy did feel bad. He offered to buy me a new chicken! They don't get it.
Anyway, the dog regularly gets out, but it has usually been when the chickens are locked in the run. I try to let them out for a few minutes in the evening for them to get some grass...
Thank you for your reply and good luck wishes.
So you think that even if there is a broken bone somewhere in her back, that it will eventually heal and she will be able to walk?
c
I recently was sitting quietly one evening (5 or 6) in my backyard, surrounded by my lovely chickens. Out of knowwhere, the neighbors dog appeared and caught one of my poor hens (Reba) and strated carrying her off! The neighbors got to her, she dropped the bird in my pasture, but Reba was not...
