Hi all!
We have our first batch of baby silkies and I’m wondering as they mature what type of coop accommodations they will need.
Will they walk up a ramp and roost along with my regular flock of chickens? Do they need a separate area to make a “cuddle puddle”? Do they need nesting boxes on...
Hello all!
I am estimating this chick to be around 8 weeks old. It has never been gentle, from the get-go has pecked other chicks, jumped up and kicked them, bumped chests, constantly stirring up my little chick group.
Do you see this behavior as rooster behavior? She behaves like a dominant...
Hi all!
- Curious what you estimate the age of this satin silkie is?
- What would you call this coloring? Is it a cuckoo?
- Any guess on gender?
Pick up was on May 30th, the last photo is from this day. :)
Here are a few more photos! Thanks to everyone for looking. The last photo is an attempted photo to show the dead insects that came off of her.
Side note: When I initially inspected her she was covered with live lice. I bathed her in dawn soap and that killed most of the active lice. I assumed...
That’s what I wondering… do they look like lice eggs or feathers coming in? She did have active lice on her that came off with a bath. Now I’m confused if these are feathers or lice eggs. I would feel very relieved if they are feathers.
Either way, they have been coated in the poultry powder.
Thank you for this recommendation. I went and purchased the dust today and coated all the chicks with it. I am praying it works.
Just as a second set of eyes, these are lice eggs correct? They are on her neck area. This is a 1-2week old silkie chick. I trimmed her hair to get a better look...
I recently brought home two silkie chicks from a local breeder only to discover one is covered in lice and already has eggs all over its scalp!
I bathed the chick in dawn soap and water last night and removed most of the active lice. However, now I am as a loss. How do I get rid of the eggs...
I recently purchased this chick locally and upon pick up the owner told me they had allowed the chick to be raised by its mother hen outside. She stated the chick is 6 weeks old and had been living fully outside since hatch. I did not see the living conditions but based on the owner, I do not...
Hi there, I’m not sure where you are located. However, I purchased an opal legbar pullet today from a local breeder for $30. Perhaps they would ship to you? The farm name is Harrison Fowl Farm located in Mauriceville Texas.
I am not a robot, just a hobby chick lover. I find the opal leg bars...
Hi all,
Today I purchased two zombie chicks locally, both from a ayam cemani roo and a leghorn hen. (What I was told at least)
Chick #1 is around 6 weeks old. White in color with black skin and comb. Typical zombie chick based on the photos I’ve seen online.
As I was speaking with the...
First time chicken owner here! I have owned chickens for the past year that we allow to free range in our average size backyard everyday, we currently have 6 hens.
They have destroyed our beautiful yard.
We have a nice coop and enclosure that I feel is very comfortable for 6 hens. In fact, I...
Hello all,
My lavender orpington’s bottom looks like this. Is this typical for Orpingtons? Am I supposed to give her regular baths or am I doing something wrong? She lays regularly and behaves normally.
I had a chicken mysteriously pass this week with no sign of injury and I feel paranoid I...
