    Greetings from Virginia

Welcome! Good luck with your chickens. You can get lots of good advice here. Top on my list for a coop is nesting boxes that you can access from outside. Being able to gather eggs without going into the coop.

I would post it on Facebook, or go by your local feed store. Find out who are local chicken owners. Someone might take it in

Egg production is picking up. We have 50% of our hens laying now, getting 15-16 a day

What did you do in the garden today?

I checked on the two raised beds I planted English peas in. I have a very nice stand of them. Fresh English peas are so much better than canned. We also got compost spread over our larger garden space. We have to till it in and plant red potatoes in the next week or two

Thanks. I didn't know how to spell it. I believe my daughter got them from Rural King. I imagine they had it spelled right

Got us some ex commercial hens. <3

You have given them a haven for their last years. I remember mine having really long nails on their feet, but they naturally wore down to reasonable length when they had a chance to scratch about.

Got us some ex commercial hens. <3

We had some commercial hens once that were being done away with. I enjoyed them. It didn't take long before they started laying. They actually were friendly.

    What Breed is my hen?

We bought some chicks labeled Americana. She does not look like an Americana. What do we have? She sure is a pretty hen.

Official BYC Poll: Do you allow your chickens outside in the snow, or keep them indoors?

Snow is very rare here in South Georgia, but we got 6" a few weeks back. Chickens can go in and out of the coop as they wish. We didn't change that. They did fine being out in it

    Back to My Roots

My first try with chickens didn't go well, but now we have a flock of 30 on our farm. I get a lot of good tips here. Welcome, and good luck with your chickens

What did you do in the garden today?

I will plant English peas in the raised beds tomorrow or Thursday. In South Georgia, you have to plant them early to get a crop. They don't like warm weather. I need to crop the collard greens.
