After having my chickens for over a year, I noticed this morning two white worms in a patch of very runny, diarrrhea-like hen poop. They were not moving.
Here is what the worms look like: round and white, with a small black dot on its head, and is semi transparent, about a half to three...
Not only do I have pictures, I've got video, too.
I just posted a humorous "chicken saddle" update to my blog. We had quite a bit of excitement around here while my girls were initially getting used to their pretty new saddles. You can read about it here: img/smilies/smile.png" alt="smile"...
Hey Nadine, the straps on mine are extremely long and my girls literally just shake them off. Am I maybe supposed to cross the straps in the front?
Thanks,
Danni
Hi Nadine, I receive my seven saddles today - thank you very much! They're very sweet.
I will put them on tomorrow and see whether my girls can grow some of their feathers back! lol
Thank you, Chutewoman. Your advice is sound. I have researched EVERYTHING I can think of in attempting to find a solution to Dottie being pecked. I had just run out of options, so it is lovely to read of something that people have had repeated success with.
I have just finished a...
I purchased a can of pine tar yesterday (about $4.50 for a small pint size can). It says in giant letters on the outside:
"DANGER - Harmful or Fatal if Swallowed
Call Physician immediately if ingested"
Applying this to my hen's head that other hens are pecking makes me more than a little...
This is EXCELLENT information - looks like I have a plan for tomorrow: go to local feed store and obtain a bit o' pine tar! I will let you know how it works.
Thank you again!!
Thank you for all your responses.
Here are a few more details:
As I mentioned initially, my pecked-on hen is a White-Crested polish hen. She is the one ornamental breed among a flock of standard hens (RIRs, Buff Orp, Sex Link, Wyandottes, etc). She looks different and acts different, which...
I have a White-Crested Black Polish hen whose scalp has been pecked raw (no feathers) and, at times, bloody. I've tried isolating her for a time, putting Blu-Kote and/or Peck-no-more solution on her, etc. to no avail. I love, love, love my girl and want to keep her safe.
Has anyone here ever...
Excellent. This, too, is very helpful. The hatchery has told me that all their breeding stock has been vaccinated, so I am assuming that my chicks will be fine now without the vaccine.
If I were to add youngsters to my flock in the future, have them vaccinated, and add them to my existing...
I *LOVE* this forum and this thread - I am desperate for advice on Marek's and my first chick-raising venture.
Brief history: A month ago I moved to a rural property that has never (to my knowledge) had chickens before. After research (and my own personal feelings), I decided *not* to...
