How to keep chickens close to the yard.

How do I keep my chickens close to home. They go too far from the coop for safety. We have raccoons and hawks around. I have wooded area around and they like going into the forest. I keep an eye out for predators but can't be there all the time. Will throwing out corn scratch help keep them in...

They are eating their own eggs!

I put hay in their beds but they scratch it off on the floor. And roost. If I keep them locked in run, they are very bored! Just standing around and squawking at me. And no eggs! Or they may be eating them.

They are eating their own eggs!

I've been leaving them closed up in pen until around noon to try and catch the eggs. What time of day do they lay? My guess is at anytime of the day. Otherwise they could be leaving them everywhere. Free range chicks. Frustrating!

1st eggs are small. Is this normal?

Thank you! Now at ease. She was attacked by something a month or so ago. Had damage to her back and right wing. Lost 3 others in the attack. Just watched her and no medical action taken. She is doing great now and starting to flap her wing now. Letting nature take it's course.
