    Roosters behaviour.

Thank you again for your inputs. I can't quote people because I use brave browser, but then again I can live with some of the shortcomings as it blocks all the adds. I agree with Perris, it's the owners fault when the dog misbehave. Not sure if we can transfer the same ideology towards roosters...

    Roosters behaviour.

Thank you all for your input and new ideas! Up until now I have considered both roos human friendly, but I guess I was wrong. The thing with roosters is like getting a surprise puppy and you have no idea if it's a Labrador or a Pitbull until suddenly it shows it's true nature. Beta roo is my...

    Roosters behaviour.

Thank you Perris, it's a different approach and a good idea and I shall definitely discuss this with my husband. And right now no one goes there beside me. I'm just worried what if I have a long day at work again or what if there's an emergency and I'm gone in a few days. We don't live in...

    Roosters behaviour.

They are in greenhouse during the winter. There's plenty of room, some people don't even have a barn this huge and wide. Their little shelter where they sleep and lay eggs is based on the back of the greenhouse and the first time they attacked my husband was when he went to the back to get the...

    Roosters behaviour.

I agree it's a huge liability. After the attack I forbid anyone else to enter there and I'm thinking about my options for the future. I do not want to gamble with the health of children especially when I know a 40 year old woman who still bares the scars of rooster attack on her back from the...

    Roosters behaviour.

Thank you for responding. I've had kids friends came over, feeding them and petting hens and it's all been fine. I'll definitely be more alert from now on and look for any signs of aggression.

    Roosters behaviour.

Last spring I hatched out some chicks. My luck of having girls is not good so I ended up with only two hens. All the mean roosters got invited to dinner by autumn and I left two gentlemen as I couldn't decide which one to cull. So right now I have 2 hens and 2 roos. I know my ratio is far from...

How many chicks will you hatch in 2026?

I want to incubate one set of turkey poults and a lot of quails. I still haven't figured out the numbers yet

What is wrong with this chicken?

Thanks for sharing this. Until now I'd never even heard of such a thing.

    What color are my quail?

And I also want to point out of how envious I am about the white quail. It's been my dream from the beginning to get the white dotted ones, but all my yellow chicks had turned out either a blind albino or the non albinos that had developed a leg issues from the hatch.

    What color are my quail?

I raise Manchurian quail and I have not figured out what's the difference between Manchurian and Italians, but IMO the middle one looks exactly like both of them.

How to market my quail eggs

Just out of curiosity. Did you get 500+ hens this spring and did you make this plan to work? My plan for next year is to hatch more eggs. The boys will be a nice meal and the girls will be sold.

    Cute blonde baby pictures!

They are adorable! I really like the pattern of first and fourth (from the left). I would really appreciate updates as they grow.

    First Celadon Eggs!

I really like those blue eggs! Hatched out a bunch of celadons myself a while ago. Sadly I got only 3 girls and only 2 are laying those beautiful blue eggs. One is producing speckled eggs with greenish background. I have new chicks in brooder, hoping to get more layers soon :fl

    Quail Dust Bath Ideas

I use with huge success those shallow and wide plastic dishes that's meant to be put under multiple small plant pots. Not sure how you name it in English. At first I tried with Tupperware style dishes, but the problem occurred quickly. When they threw out most of the sand, the dish became light...

    What the helly!?

When a chick is doing such yawning motions, it is usually for making room to the crop, helping the food move down to esophagus. Perfectly normal motion after eating.

    What the helly!?

My guess is adjusting the crop. Mine do this quite often.

Help: How to Cull (if you've never culled before)

You are not alone. This year I hatched out a splay leg chick who was such a sweetie and despite of what I knew needed to be done I really wanted to give her a chance for life instead. One of her legs was stretched out to the side and the other one developed curled toes. She hopped around using...

Is this wry neck? PLEASE HELP!!!

How long has she been like this? If she just hatched then she probably needs some time to stretch out. If there's a few hours passed and she still hasn't got to her feet then there's definitely something wrong with her. Usually when they don't hatch themselves there's something wrong with them.

    Best incubator for quail

I have the cheapest and tiniest incubator I found from online market of China. My hatch rate was awful at first. Then I made some research and tossed away the egg turner. Now I turn the eggs by hand two times a day and the hatch rate has gone up from 30% to 90%
