They were smaller due to age. The bigger roosters are my daddy roo and ones that hatched in May and June. These guys hatched August September so they were 3-5 months younger.
Thank you for your detailed response. I didn't see blood of any sort. The 1st one that died should be on video, I just had Christmas village stuff in the way so I couldn't access it. I'll check my cameras and see if I can see anything. It's weird that it's only roosters as I have way more...
About 2 weeks ago I found a dead rooster at dusk. It was laying in the coop and I wasn't sure what happened to it. I have a quarter acre free range area that is completely fenced in with a large coop as well as a covered run. I have 24 hens and 7 roosters. My hens hatched 24 chicks last year...
Explain the ignores you. All my chickens come running when they hear me coming. I handle babies as much as I can to socialize them. None of them enjoy being picked up but some tolerate it and are easier to catch than others.
Unfortunately I have no idea. He has clean legs. My guess is ee mom and Love is his dad? I think all the white comes from love. Love looks light brahma, but his dad was partridge cochin so that's where the color and the ee hen?
So. My chickens hatched 24 chicks this year and I have atleast 11 roosters/cockrels. How do you decide which ones to keep and when do you butcher to get the best meat? This spring My flock consisted of 3 golden laced cochin, 3 light brahmas, 5 dark brahmas, 1 rhode island red, 1 partridge...
This is the bug I thought was a depluming mites because my chickens were losing neck feathers. I would them on me after holding the birds during the day this past summer.
The video says elector psp is a 1 use. I've used it multiple times as a bath and cleaned my coop and sprayed it each time. I must be missing some infected birds as I haven't bathed them all. I've caught them all and dusted some, but the way the video Sprays looks way easier than baths. Thank you
This spring I moved their food outside to keep the birds out of the coop. I just moved it inside under their new covered area so I wild bird would have to go through 2 chicken doors to get to it, but if I end up with birds in the coop, I'll have to lock the chickens up to keep them out.
This chick hatched in July and was my favorite of the 8. I named it fancy when it was little and fluffy, but it's definitely a roo. I have several cockrels and will decide which to keep based on behavior as they age, but right now this one is at the top of the keep list, right behind it's dad...
Last winter the birds moved inside when they couldn't get food outside which was a nightmare. I worry they will do the same if I use the treadel feeder without locking the chickens in which locks the birds out. Thoughts?
This is a great question. Last fall the Eastern starlings moved in. I have struggled with them ever since. My coop is huge and the chickens have about 1/6 of an acer that is fenced in where they "free range" the quarantined birds are in a secured environment, but the others have wild birds...
