Yeah I said nothing to the seller as I said I wanted 6 eggs and paid for 6 eggs but she told me she'd put in an extra 3, however those 3 'extra' eggs were obviously misshapen and some of the 6 I've paid for were as well, although to a lesser extent...in total approx 4 eggs out of 9 arrived in...
Bought some polish eggs and noticed most of them are just slightly misshapen...not enough to immediately discount from hatching, but enough to make me wonder if it will impact chick development at all...any advice appreciated x
Update! Chicks are....a few weeks older now, I think 3 weeks and a bit...here is what they look like now. I used to think the older white one was a boy and the younger black one was a girl (both are biological siblings, potentially different dads, but same mom, boy is older by 2 days) but its...
I did too ...I saw no movement, that's how I could tell no internal pipping .not sure if I need a more powerful torch but I'm too scared to open up eggs now that's for sure
It was day 23 and after seeing no internal or external pipping in 3 eggs that were under my broody hen, but seeing fully developed chicks, I decided to open one up to see what went wrong and to my horror, the chick was still alive with a small amount of unabsorbed yolk but it was too late, I put...
I realized I had caught him in an earlier photo I posted here, running past the yellow council bin. I'm not sure but I think I might have actually caught the mate of the hen I first caught, I had seen him protective of a dun coloured hen that also frequents the outside. It appears only the...
Update: sorry for not updating there's been endless rain and flood warnings, made me worried for the chooks and I went to the park and luckily there was one outside which I caught, a small roo, he freaked out and made the most distressing calls in the car but after washing and drying him he...
Foster mum loves her/him, and the other hen loves her chick too (chick on newspaper)
The mottled chick's mum is a full sized rescue hen, not sure of breed, and is very friendly while the yellow chick's mother is quite flighty (and very outgoing, she's taking him on tours in the rain a few days...
This guy's bio mum was black bantam cross, was a sweet dorky hen that has a look as if she only possessed 2 brain cells (u know the type). I'm guessing she was part serama as she was absolutely tiny. unfortunately she was unalived by a dog and her eggs were saved and hatched by some resident...
I really hope Steven is alive and well but if it had to be, I hope he had a painless passing and is in the big pasture in the sky.
I recently did try to hatch eggs from the same eBay seller I bought Steven as an egg from, I know it's not the same but knowing that there still is a tie to him and...
I am sorry to hear about your horrible experience, many 'rescues' in Australia are terrible. Absolutely more like concentration camps than anything. I have learnt my lesson and it saddens me that many people don't know that these 'rescues' are a actually just run by animal hoarders with no...
Thanks everyone, I have decided not to risk it. I also noticed that the dark spot/embryo appears adheres to the cracked area, which I took to not be a good sign. I have discarded the egg.
Discovered it tonight while candling the eggs, it's definitely got something inside while a lot of the other eggs didn't, but it just had to be insanely cracked. After losing a lot of fertile eggs recently due to an exploding egg under a broody hen, I want to save it AT THE SAME TIME knowing...
millions of people also eat incubated eggs around the world with no ill effects... different ways of life, different choices.
Please do not call these people 'nutty' or 'desperate'. You are putting down entire cultures and peoples...which is never a good look. Calling them disgusting 'food'...
2023 was the first year I started hatching chickens, I had discharged from the Australia Navy on medical grounds, lost in life, kinda depressed when for some reason I had an sudden desire to hatch eggs and be surrounded by adorable fluffy chicks.
So I bought an incubator and 12 fertile eggs...
Going against the grain here. It's actually considered a delicacy in certain south eastern countries...except it was far worse than yours as they were were fertile and rotten (rotten on purpose), so you'd be relative safe. I say RELATIVELY because everything carries risk. thanks to Best Ever...
