We lost our first chicken this week during the day too and of course it had to be my favorite, Polish Hen named Cher. The only thing we found where just a few tail feathers....so sad. I agree you probably have rats and should set some traps.

When my little Thor had an impacted crop, I fed him small pieces of bread soaked in olive oil. After he ate them, I gently massaged his crop until the food began to pass....haven't had any problems since.
