My human door fits me… but I have to walk in sideways while carrying a bag of feed. I definitely would have put in a double door or made the opening a few inches wider.
I’ve had khaki campbells, a Cayuga, buffs, and black and blue Swedish and they all stumble over themselves running away from me if I so much as look at them the wrong way. But if I stay still and crouch they’ll wander over to me.
How exciting! I don’t have experience incubating super dark eggs, but I have hatched a few clutches of blue/ green eggs. It looks like there’s development in all but one (the lightest egg of all four photos). I’d monitor that one for another day or two and remove it if there’s no change.

What a gorgeous girl! Sending you a virtual hug. You did the humane thing. Often chickens don't get enough credit for being companion animals with full lives—there's nothing more heartbreaking than watching a living thing grow and then having to watch it pass. It's okay and completely normal to...
I’m so sorry that you’re at this cross roads :( it’s never an easy decision to make, but you’re making all of the right considerations and you’ll choose the right decision for you and her.

I truly hate fb as well! I’m only on there for chicken related communication and marketplace. If it’s helpful at all, I’ve also been in touch with Gypsy Hen and Freshly Picked Chicks. Both are reputable breeders who sell eggs.
He's based in Colorado! I think he played a role in getting Blue recognized as a color for the breed. Unfortunately he's taking a break from selling this year, but he's a great resource!

I've read that Cackle's stock comes from reputable lines, but I think what it boils down to is their ability to do QC at scale. If you're able to find local breeders that might be the best way to ensure that you're getting healthy stock that's bred to standard. Ameraucanas are also prone to...
Welcome! I was chicken-curious before I got my first few birds, and I definitely stalked this forum for beginner tips. I also have some friends in the area who I tapped for advice.
In general, I think I experience a bit of both proactive and reactive—there’s always something unexpected that...
