Honestly I don't know. It started out with a lame leg, then it was like neither leg worked right. Wouldn't walk and would move around with their wings. We have a little box outside for shade and they'd hang in it all day. Ate and drank but just wasn't right. I cleaned out the coop with hot...
Thank you!!! The babies are doing great. Once they stopped using the heat plate and started roosting, we removed it. Sadly the hen that allowed them to get under her passed so the 12 week old now had taken them in. But now she is ill also so she's living in a tote in my bathroom while we nurse...
Thank you!!! We had reintergrate once and it wasn't fun at all. The littles did try to get under the older one and she tipped over. To be honest it was pretty funny. I put the heat plate in the coop and after about 15 minutes they figured it out. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻
Thanks! They live in a coop and run. When we got the ee's at about 2 days old, we put them outside immediately with the silkie (she loved babies). It was 70s and 80s at that time though. The 7 week old was born outside. Unfortunately we only have 2 hens but they are integrated.
We have one cochin/Rhode Island Red bantam chick that is 7 weeks old and three Easter Egger chicks that are 3 weeks old. They have lived outside their entire lives, raised by a silkie hen. Unfortunately, the silkie passed away today. The daytime temperatures are in the 50s and drop to the 40s at...
Hi.
We did find another home for the rooster already and he'll be going to a bachelor pad soon. If either of the chicks are male, they'll also be going with him. We had planned on only have 4 hens total but then this happened (we were told the rooster was a hen when we got him and we found out...
Thank you so much! Unfortunately, I'm not sure what the sex of the chicks is. I believe there is one male and one female, but since they are a mixed breed—particularly a Silkie mix—it's difficult to tell for sure.
Once the babies were weaned, the mother got tired of them, so we put her back...
Thank you so much!!!
I couldn't decide if bringing them in or leaving them out was the best course. I was panicking because it was 8 degrees and going to get into the negatives. And our silkie decided that winter is the best time to begin laying eggs lol (the babies were her 5th and 6th eggs i...
Hello :)
We got our first chickens in the summer of 2024 so we're pretty new to this. We started with 2 silkies, 1 old English, and 1 sebright (each kid got to pick 2 chicks). We then got our 2 rir bantam mixes and our cochin bantam. We now have 2 cochin/silkie mixes also ;) We love having them...
Hi. My cochin bantam and silkie had 2 babies that we brought inside with mama since they hatched on Thanksgiving during the cold. We let the mama visit the rooster and two hens outside when it was nice, but eventually, she preferred to return outside. Now the chicks are about 15 weeks old, and...
