STILL broody!!! It has now been 3 weeks. We started to just let her out of the broody cage after everyone else is done laying eggs, close the coop up and let her do her thing with the others in the yard. If the coop is open, she heads straight to the box and stays there...no eggs Last time...

Okay, so my PR has been in the broody cage for a week now. We let her out today and she ran about, dusted, etc. for about 10-15min...then headed straight to the box. She is still making "dinosaur" screeches when we approach her. This is her SECOND session this year, last one lasted 5 weeks...

Our Co-Op is no longer ordering from this source, as the cost of shipping kept increasing. We now purchase our feed from The Feed Barn in Costa Mesa. They carry Scratch-N-Peck which is Non-GMO/Soy Free/Organic layer feed, starter/grower feed, and scratch with or without corn. Best to y'all!

Thank you Scratch'n'peck. My husband also found some sites that talk about "Sudden Chicken Death Syndrom." Considering we are only into our 2nd year of being chicken owners, this is all a learning process and new to us.

My husband just called and said that our compost pile may have bacterial blooms and that it should not be anywhere the chickens can get to it??? It is in a wire cage and it is a "hot pile". They do go around it, but not too often.
