Setting eggs Oct. 14 - Nov. 4. Anyone else?

Yes, just set my first lots of eggs (36 pure breed eggs) in my new incubator on Sunday 14th NZ time! White Orpingtons, Light Sussex, Coronation Sussex, RIR, Blue Leghorn & 1 Blue Wyandotte. Never tried hatching before so fingers crossed for success!! Good luck with yours.

    Hen hatches Duck Eggs

I have just set 36 pure breed eggs in my new incubator having read detailed forum advice here about incubating eggs, my main interest being getting the humidity right and not having it as high as the incubator instruction manual so as to not drown the chicks upon hatching. I had read on here...

What breed or X Breed is this little Bantam Hen?

I think so too !! Any mummy hen who just loves to love chicks no matter if they are hers or not, is a very special little hen whatever her breed :-)

What breed or X Breed is this little Bantam Hen?

Thank you! I bought her yesterday and she has settled in beautifully. The little family are in a chicken tractor until the chicks grow older. I don't really mind what breed she is, as I would just love her to hatch some pure breed eggs I buy next time she goes broody. Just would be lovely...

What breed or X Breed is this little Bantam Hen?

Does anyone know what breed or cross breed this little surrogate mother bantam hen might be? She is raising 10 chicks that were hatched in an incubator and are not hers. Would really value any thoughts please :-) Thank you! Melanie

In-ground pool, will my chickens drown?

My six 12/13 weeks old 'hens' have been free ranging in our back yard since they were four weeks old and have investigated the pool but never tried to go in it. The only thing that's been in our pool was a hedgehog a few weeks ago. It obviously wasn't his time because the day before, the pool...

Is it a Silver Laced Wyandotte Pullet or Rooster?

Thanks Jeslewmazer! I hope you're right. She seems girly enough to me and much more like 'Katy's birds' pullet photo in a previous post, I think.

Is it a Silver Laced Wyandotte Pullet or Rooster?

Happy new year everyone! Just been taking some new photos of my girls in the garden this evening so thought you might like an update photo on my Wyandotte. I really think its a girl after all but I'm no expert. What do you think? 'She's' about 12 weeks old now. Asleep in the garden...

Is it a Silver Laced Wyandotte Pullet or Rooster?

Oh dear. This is not the gender I'm wanting at all. Well if it's a roo, it's got a very submissive nature. It's the most submissive of all six I have. Well I guess I'll just keep waiting and hoping! Somehow these little feathered friends feed the soul. I love to go and sit out there...

Is it a Silver Laced Wyandotte Pullet or Rooster?

UPDATE:- It's two weeks on and hubby has just taken some more photos tonight of our little Wyandotte. What do you think now? 'She' was from a breeder but I don't know if she is pure bred. I think 'she' is 8.5 weeks old now. I really want it to be a pullet cos I can't keep a boy.

Is it a Silver Laced Wyandotte Pullet or Rooster?

Plane ticket in the post!!! If it's a boy, what age would it likely start crowing?

Is it a Silver Laced Wyandotte Pullet or Rooster?

Thank you all so much for your wonderful words of wisdom and photos. I've loved looking at all of these and they are a fantastic resource! I'll keep you updated on any progress! Just thought you might like to see my hen house in our backyard. It was delivered two weeks ago. Then I paved...

Is it a Silver Laced Wyandotte Pullet or Rooster?

Oh No! ... (Sob sob) I must admit, I have read another thread about the wyandotte roos just having a bit of fluff for a tail at this age. And this one has just that. I really badly want it to be a pullet..... Any chance the colour difference can be excused cos the bird is in Kiwi Land...

Is it a Silver Laced Wyandotte Pullet or Rooster?

Yay! Thank you so much! So apart from the comb, are there any other distinguishing pullet features on 'her' that helps you decide?

Is it a Silver Laced Wyandotte Pullet or Rooster?

I am only new so I would love some professional opinions as to whether this 6 week old chick is a boy or girl. I would really like it to be a pullet because I lovingly raised 3 orpingtons last years only to have them turn out roosters!!! Please tell me it's a girl! Thank you! Melanie

Are my baby chicks boys or girls?

Thanks V Comb. My youngest three children are little Aussies cos they were born while we were there. Means we can start cheering the Aussies when the All Blacks are getting a thrashing! I think that chick's a boy too. I hope you're right about the others!!!:

Are my baby chicks boys or girls?

Thank you Jasmine! The photos will be a great reference for me in a couple of weeks time. Your chicks are beautiful. How old are they now? We just had my 'dream' hen house delivered that I've wanted for a year now. It's a 3 metre tall A frame, walk in easy to clean style and the chicks love...
