It was down a little, but now it feels like it’s basically stopped. The treatments were done 14 days apart. I haven’t seen any bugs on them and there’s not really anywhere to hide eggs in the run. They seem to go into the nesting box but then when I check later there’s nothing in it.
I guess...
Hi friends,
My two hens, each a little over one year old, recently had to get treated for tapeworms with Zimecterin Gold after I found segments in one of their droppings. They just had their second treatment a couple of days ago, so it’s been about 2.5 weeks since they had their first dose...
Hi, I’m sorry to say that she passed :( I wasn’t able to get a necropsy, so unfortunately I don’t have an official answer, but I hope your silkie pulls through!
Thanks, all! I’m curious to know what to watch for after administering the first dose to know if it’s working.
They haven’t resumed laying eggs except for 1 here and there. Is that normal?
Also, they mostly have diarrhea but I haven’t seen any more tapeworm segments or worms come out when I...
I have two chickens I’ll be treating for tapeworms, as I found segments in their poop. I’m seeing conflicting things about how much Zimecterin Gold to give, with some saying 0.06ml per lb and some saying 0.6 ml for a 5lb chicken (double what the former number would suggest). Which should I...
Hi all. I’m having a horrible night—I was out for the weekend and had a friend check in on my pullets yesterday, since I would get home today. They found one of my pullets dead, who had been sick and isolated, so that didn’t come as a surprise, although it still hurt. Tonight when I got home...
Update: The last 48 hours have been rapidly downhill for her. She can barely move without having to flap her wings to support herself, and still she falls over after 1 or 2 steps. I’m starting to think it’s Marek’s with how her legs have been approaching the splits. Is there anything I can do...
I've placed the older flock as far as possible from the new flock with the size of my yard and city ordinances in terms of distance from residential structures. I hope it's enough!
It seems fairly even between the two legs, and often they're either slightly outward from each other (evenly) or both straight when she stands. When I got her 6 weeks ago she was doing just fine—can tendon ruptures be sudden/unexplained later in life? I think maybe she's older than her sisters...
Hi Lacy! None of my chickens are vaccinated. Here's the post where I go into depth on her symptoms and what I've done so far to examine/treat: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/pullet-suddenly-weak-stumbling-vitamin-deficiency-or-is-it-worse.1664599/
I would LOVE your thoughts on it if...
Hi community!
I brought home 3 older pullets 6 weeks ago. 2 weeks ago, right before I was about to integrate, 1 of them started showing weakness in her legs, so I've been isolating her from her sisters. 2 weeks later, the other 2 still seem healthy.
The weak chicken currently has a small pen...
You could try switching to a layer feed if it’s possible for your flock, otherwise it sounds like you’re doing the right thing. Stress is another potential cause, and a couple diseases, so you could keep an eye out for other behaviors if the issue persists. I noticed this in one of my hens once...
Hi there! I’ve seen this with my chickens when they don’t have enough calcium or are stressed by something. You could feed them egg or oyster shells to bring up calcium levels, but I’d only get concerned if it becomes a regular thing. I’ve even seen it where the membrane is on but no shell is...
Thank you for this advice! I’ll stop the electrolytes and continue with vitamins, which I’ve been using Rooster Booster Poultry Cell for. Is there a different product you would recommend for riboflavin and B?
Good tip about sugar, too. I’ll give that a shot!
