When to incorporate healthy new chickens when 1 of them is sick?

Please read post before answering! Would you...

  • Integrate the 2 healthy pullets into the flock now and give the weak one more space?

Hi community!

I brought home 3 older pullets 6 weeks ago. 2 weeks ago, right before I was about to integrate, 1 of them started showing weakness in her legs, so I've been isolating her from her sisters. 2 weeks later, the other 2 still seem healthy.

The weak chicken currently has a small pen within my secondary coop. I'm wondering if it's safe to integrate the 2 healthy pullets (not much smaller than my adult hens) into my adult coop, where I have two healthy year-old hens.

My reasoning is that it would be easier to manage 2 coops than 3, and the sick one could have more space (within eyesight of the primary coop, so she wouldn't be fully alone). How long would you wait to integrate the apparently healthy chickens?

Are they vaccinated against Marek's disease? Weakness in the legs can be a sign of Marek's. If it is that, all three could have it and expose it to the rest of your flock. If they're vaccinated, that could be why they're not all showing symptoms.

Examine her legs and try finding what the route cause of it is. There can be other things causing this, some of which aren't contagious at all, but I highly recommend caution. Feel free to start a thread in the Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures section of this forum if you need help diagnosing and possibly treating your pullet.

Hi Lacy! None of my chickens are vaccinated. Here's the post where I go into depth on her symptoms and what I've done so far to examine/treat: https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...ng-vitamin-deficiency-or-is-it-worse.1664599/

I would LOVE your thoughts on it if you have time to take a look there! Thank you for your response.

I am wondering if you have not already accidentally broken quarantine. If they are close enough to see each other?
I've placed the older flock as far as possible from the new flock with the size of my yard and city ordinances in terms of distance from residential structures. I hope it's enough!
