Meant to post an update last week but had a lot going on. Update on this week day 18 : the girls are doing really well and they are still all bug free. The wounds are healing nicely still the main one i keep an eye on is the wound on Mocha's thigh area since it was a deeper wound and not just a...
Thank you. I don't do electrolytes every day and when I do they also have 2 containers with plain water around always. And the probiotics i just sprinkle some in with their feed every few days or so. Thanks for the advice though I didn't actually know that. I'm also still doing aspirin every...
Update on my girls day 9 Sunday/ yesterday : Mocha is the first two photos wounds are looking good and she's holding her injured wing up a bit more which is great but still hurting and I'm sure it might take longer to heal than the wounds. Unfortunately she tried to fly to avoid me grabbing her...
Day 5 Update : our 3 injured are doing a bit better day by day. Got their wounds cleaned up and feathers trimmed more yesterday. Got the heat lamp out for them a couple days ago between the injuries and bald spots it's also been cooler and rainy out. I got some new photos of their injuries and...
Thank you, I'm sorry you had to go through it also. One thing that makes me mad is people who think oh their just chickens like their not as important as any other pet like cats and dogs but to some of us their just as special. Yes we started keeping them mostly for the eggs but we hand raised...
Yes we have animal control and have leash laws in our area. We are allowed to shoot to protect also. We have a pen connected to our coop which has a roof also the only way to get in is through the gate or the door to the coop. But we let our chickens free range in our yard which we have a fence...
I am so irate right now. We found out who the dog that attacked our chickens belongs to. She came by last night and said sorry which doesn't feel like anything after losing 5 chickens and still having 3 injured. Even more so after finding out a bit ago that it has killed quite a few other...
Had to make a very tough decision this morning. We are going to put Bella down. I think it's the best thing for her unfortunately. They all made it through the night but she is wheezing more and she now has maggots in her wound. She's the one with a punctured lung 😢. The other three are still...
Thank you, I will keep checking it. I know it can take a few cleanings to get them all. Unfortunately I had to deal with dry strike already twice since June. I checked her other wound and the other girls wounds and they all look maggot free thank goodness. Hopefully they stay that way. I think...
Update: cleaned up the wounds last night best I could. Still not sure how to really clean Bella's wound since I'm pretty sure she had a punctured lung so I dabbed it with some gauze and saline and put a little medicine around the puncture. Wish I could flush it. I mixed up some electrolyte...
Thank you so much. Yes there is wheezing coming out of a specific hole in her wound. The one with the broken wing I'm pretty sure it's a closed break. I didn't see any broken skin or anything on it or around it. Her wound is up more between her wings on her back and a bit more towards her other wing
The one I'm most worried about putting anything on even saline is Bella because I'm pretty sure she had a punctured lung and i don't want the liquids to get in her lung
